(NARRATOR)>> TODAY ON DETROIT MUSCLE WE'LL BE DOING A LOW BUCK MOD TO "PROJECT SYDEWINDER", OUR '81 COBRA MUSTANG, WHICH IS A PRETTY BIG UPGRADE. PLUS A REAR END SWAP TO HANDLE SOME BIG POWER.
(MARC)>> HEY EVERYBODY WELCOME TO DETROIT MUSCLE. TODAY WE'RE GONNA BE GETTING BACK ON OUR 1981 MUSTANG COBRA PROJECT THAT WE'RE CALLING "PROJECT SYDEWINDER". WE'VE GOT QUITE A BIT OF WORK TO DO ON IT. SO SADDLE UP!
(TOMMY)>> AND SPEAKING OF WORK TO DO, WE JUST GOT OUR '69 CHARGER BACK FROM THE BLASTER, AND THERE'S A LITTLE BIT MORE SHEET METAL WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. SO I'M GONNA BURN A LITTLE BIT OF WIRE ON IT.
(MARC)>> SOUNDS GOOD! I GOT THIS!
(TOMMY)>> ALL RIGHT, SEE YA BOSS.
(MARC)>> SAFETY FIRST! WELL LAST TIME YOU SAW OUR MUSTANG WE WERE BUSY INSTALLING THE FRONT SUSPENSION. WE GOT OUR COIL OVERS IN ALONG WITH THE CASTOR/CAMBER PLATES UP TOP, AND OF COURSE THE KMEMBER WITH THE TUBULAR AARMS THAT GO WITH IT, AND THE NEXT THING THAT'S GONNA NEED TO BE INSTALLED IS GONNA BE THE SPINDLE, BUT THERE'S SOMETHING SPECIAL I WANTED TO SHOW YOU ABOUT THOSE. SO WE SAVED IT UNTIL THIS TIME. COME ON OVER HERE AND LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. WELL HERE'S THE SPINDLE AND HUB ASSEMBLY THAT CAME OFF THE RIGHT FRONT OF OUR FOX BODY MUSTANG HERE. FIRST NOTICEABLE THING WOULD BE THE SIZE OF THIS ROTOR. IT'S VERY SMALL, AND THEN YOU'LL SEE THAT THE ROTOR IS BUILT INTO THE HUB. SO IF YOU WANT TO SWAP OUT THE ROTOR YOU'LL HAVE TO TAKE THE CAP OFF, AND THE NUT, AND GET THE BEARINGS OUT, AND IT'S MESSY AND TIME CONSUMING. ALSO THIS IS A FOUR LUG SETUP, WHICH IS THE WAY ALL THESE CARS CAME. WE WANT TO SWITCH UP TO A FIVE LUG, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY HERE IS THE FACT THE WAY THIS SPINDLE STICKS OUT OVER THE ROTOR. YOU CAN'T PUT A LARGER ROTOR ON HERE WITHOUT MODIFYING THE SPINDLE DRASTICALLY, AND THEN YOU'VE GOT TO FIND A NEW WAY TO MOUNT YOUR CALIPERS AND THAT CAN BE A PAIN. SO WE'RE GONNA GO WITH THESE SN 95 OR '94 TO '04 MUSTANG SPINDLES THAT WE GOT FROM NPS AUTO SALVAGE. THESE ARE REBUILT. THEY JUST CAME OUT OF THE JUNKYARD, AND THEY CLEANED THEM UP AND PUT A NEW HUB ASSEMBLY ON HERE, BUT THE MOST NOTICEABLE THING RIGHT OFF THE BAT IS THE FACT THAT THE ROTOR IS NOT ATTACHED HERE. IT'S A SLIP ON STYLE ROTOR. IT'S ALSO A FIVE LUG, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE GOING WITH. IT DOES HAVE A RELUCTOR WHEEL HERE FOR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FOR ABS, WHICH WE'RE JUST NOT GONNA USE BUT THAT'S OKAY. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS THE WAY THIS THING ATTACHES TO THE CAR IS JUST LIKE THE WAY OUR FOX BODY ONE DOES. SO IT BOLTS RIGHT ON. WELL HERE ARE OUR CALIPERS AND THIS IS THE ONE THAT CAME OFF OF OUR MUSTANG. IT'S A SINGLE PISTON, AND THESE ARE THE ONES THAT WE'RE GONNA GO WITH. THIS IS A DUAL PISTON. THIS IS ACTUALLY FROM A '94 TO '04 MUSTANG, BUT THIS IS ACTUALLY SPECIFIC TO THE COBRAS. SO THEY'RE LARGER BRAKES, MORE POWERFUL, AND THEY'RE BUILT FOR 13 INCH ROTORS. NOW WE GOT THESE FROM ROCK AUTO DOT COM, AND EVEN WITH THE CORE CHARGE THEY'RE ONLY ABOUT $130 BUCKS A PIECE AND THEY COME WITH THE BRACKET. NOW SINCE WE WENT WITH THOSE COBRA FRONT CALIPERS, WE HAD TO UPGRADE TO THE COBRA PADS AND ROTORS. SO WE GOT THIS PAD AND ROTOR KIT FROM EBC BRAKES. THE KIT COMES WITH THESE YELLOW STUFF PADS, WHICH ARE GOOD FOR RACING, OR DRIFTING, OR EVEN THE STREET. THEY'RE MADE OF A HIGH FRICTION MATERIAL. SO THEY'RE GONNA GIVE YOU THE MAXIMUM STOPPING POWER WHETHER YOU'RE ON THE TRACK OR THE STREET. THE KIT ALSO CAME WITH THESE ROTORS HERE. THEY'RE DIMPLED AND SLOTTED, AND IF YOU SEE HERE, WHEN WE PUT THEM ONTO OUR SPINDLE THEY JUST SLIDE RIGHT ON. AND WHEN YOU LOOK AT IT NEXT TO THE ONES THAT CAME OFF, I MEAN THE SIZE, THERE'S NO COMPARISON. I GOT THE SPINDLES HERE IN THE PAINT BOOTH BECAUSE I WANT TO PUT A COAT OF PAINT ON THEM SO THEY DON'T RUST. I WENT AHEAD AND TOOK THE STUDS OUT BECAUSE I'M GONNA REPLACE THEM WITH SOME LONGER ONES, BUT I'M GONNA SHOW YOU THOSE IN JUST A BIT. I TAPED OFF THE HUB BECAUSE I DON'T NEED TO PAINT THAT, BUT I AM GONNA PAINT THIS PART WITH SOME CAST IRON PAINT. WE'RE USING DUPLICOLOR'S ENGINE ENAMEL BECAUSE OF ITS DURABILITY AND RESISTANCE TO CORROSION. WE CHOSE THE CAST IRON COLOR SO WE DON'T CHANGE THE LOOK TOO MUCH. WE'VE GOT THE PAINT DRY ON OUR SPINDLES NOW, AND I SAID EARLIER I PRESSED OUT THE WHEEL STUDS. THESE ARE THE FACTORY ONES THAT I PRESSED OUT AND THAT'S BECAUSE WE'RE GONNA REPLACE THEM WITH THESE LONGER ONES HERE. CHECK'EM OUT! WE'RE GOING WITH THESE THREE INCH LONG ARP WHEEL STUDS. THEY'RE PREMIUM GRADE HEAT TREATED 87-40 CHROMOLY STEEL. THEY'RE RATED AT 190,000 PSI TENSILE STRENGTH, AND THEY'RE GONNA BE ABLE TO HANDLE PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING WE CAN THROW AT THEM.
NOW YOU COULD HAMMER THESE THINGS IN, BUT IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A PRESS THAT MAKES THE JOB A WHOLE LOT EASIER. JUST MAKE SURE YOU USE PROPER SAFETY EQUIPMENT LIKE EYE PROTECTION, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE TO USE A SPACER.
WE'LL POP OUR SPINDLE INTO PLACE...
...AND WITH THE HELP OF THE WASHER AND SPACER, THE STUD ON OUR BALL JOINT WILL LINE UP PERFECTLY WITH THE SLOTS IN OUR CASTLE NUT.
A COTTER PIN WILL LOCK IT IN PLACE.
NOW WE CAN ATTACH THE SPINDLE TO THE STRUT AND REUSE THE ORIGINAL HARDWARE WITH SOME SPACERS TO KEEP IT HOME.
THESE LOCK NUTS ARE FINE TO REUSE. SO WE'LL GET'EM TIGHT. [ drill spinning ]
(NARRATOR)>> COMING UP, JUST WHAT IS BUMP STEER, AND HOW DO YOU FIX IT? THEN IT'S REAR SUSPENSION UPGRADES.
(MARC)>> NOW BEFORE WE GET THOSE BRAKES INSTALLED I WANTED TO GO AHEAD AND GET OUR STEERING ALL SQUARED AWAY, STARTING WITH THIS POWER STEERING RACK THAT WE GOT FROM FLAMING RIVER. IT'S A 12 TO ONE RATIO, WHICH MEANS IT'S ONLY ABOUT TWO POINT SEVEN TURNS LOCK TO LOCK. IT'S GOT THESE STAINLESS BRAIDED LINES HERE, AND IT'S MADE WITH ALL NEW COMPONENTS RIGHT HERE IN THE USA. NOW FLAMING RIVER ALSO SENT US THIS STEERING SHAFT KIT, WHICH WE'LL GET INSTALLED LATER ON. NOW INSTEAD OF GETTING JUST REGULAR OUT TIE ROD ENDS WE WENT AHEAD AND GOT THIS BUMP STEER KIT FROM QAONE. WHAT THIS IS GONNA ALLOW US TO DO IS TO CHANGE THAT ANGLE OF OUR TIRE ROD ENDS SO WE DON'T HAVE THAT CONDITION KNOWN AS BUMP STEER. THE LAST THING WE NEEDED TO GET THIS THING INSTALLED WERE SOME MOUNT BUSHINGS. SO WE GOT THESE POLYURETHANE ONES FROM SUMMIT RACING. THE BUSHINGS JUST SLIDE RIGHT INTO THE RACK, RIGHT WHERE THE STOCK ONES WOULD NORMALLY GO. NOW WHEN YOU GO TO INSTALL A STEERING RACK ONTO A FOX BODY MUSTANG THERE'S A FEW DIFFERENT WAYS IT CAN BE MOUNTED. IF YOU'VE GOT A FACTORY KMEMBER IT'LL HAVE BIG STUDS STICKING OFF, AND YOU JUST SLIDE THE RACK OVER THAT AND THEN PUT THE NUTS ON, AND IF YOU HAVE AN AFTERMARKET KMEMBER A LOT OF TIMES THERE WILL BE THESE THREADED PEDESTALS THAT STICK OUT, AND THEN YOU JUST STICK THE RACK UP THERE AND BOLT IT ON. THE QAONE IS UPGRADED TO THESE SLOTS LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE WHEN WE INSTALLED THIS KMEMBER EARLIER. WHAT'S GREAT ABOUT IT IS THEY INCLUDE THESE LITTLE TABS HERE, AND YOU CAN EITHER MOUNT THE RACK IN A LOW POSITION LIKE THIS, OR YOU CAN FLIP THE TABS OVER AND MOUNT THE RACK UP IN A HIGHER POSITION, WHICH IS WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO BECAUSE WE WANT TO GET THAT RACK UP AS HIGH AS WE CAN SINCE WE'RE GONNA LOWER THIS CAR QUITE A BIT. SO WE'RE JUST GONNA MOUNT IT RIGHT THERE.
WITH THE TABS FULLY SEATED IN THE SLOTS, WE'LL ADD THE BIG RETAINING WASHER FOLLOWED BY A REGULAR FLAT WASHER. THEN A NYLON LOCKING NUT. NOW BEFORE WE GET THIS BUMP STEER KIT COMPLETELY INSTALLED I WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHAT BUMP STEER ACTUALLY IS. YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS STEERING ARM IS COMPLETELY STRAIGHT HERE, WHICH IS IDEAL. NOW IF YOU SAY LOWER YOUR CAR A LITTLE BIT, COUPLE OF INCHES, THAT'S GONNA MAKE YOUR STEERING ANGLE GO LIKE THIS, AND THEN WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP, WELL IT'S GONNA MAKE IT GO UP EVEN FURTHER. AND THE HIGHER YOU GO THE MORE INBOARD THIS IS. SO WHEN YOU HEAR THE TERM BUMP STEER WHAT THAT REFERS TO IS A LOWER CAR ESPECIALLY, AND THE STEERING ANGLE'S OFF, AND THEN YOU HIT A BUMP, THAT'S GONNA PULL THIS WHEEL IN AND THAT'LL CAUSE YOUR CAR TO VEER. SO WE WANT TO ELIMINATE THAT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. SO TO ELIMINATE THAT THIS BUMP STEER KIT DOES THE TRICK, AND YOU FIRST INSTALL THIS HERE WHERE YOUR OUTER TIE ROD END WOULD NORMALLY GO, AND THEN WE'VE GOT THIS ROD END THAT SCREWS INTO HERE WITH LEFT HANDED THREADS. THAT WAY YOU CAN ADJUST IT BY MOVING THIS BAR. ONCE THIS GETS SCREWED IN...
...AND THEN THIS GETS INSTALLED ON HERE. AND THEN YOU HAVE THESE SPACERS HERE, AND YOU CAN SEE THEY'RE ALL DIFFERENT SIZES. SO DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU NEED THIS ARM TO BE YOU CAN PUT A LITTLE BIT OF SPACERS HERE, MORE DOWN HERE, OR VICE VERSA, BUT SINCE WE DON'T HAVE OUR CAR AT RIDE HEIGHT YET WE DON'T ACTUALLY KNOW WHERE OURS NEEDS TO BE. SO WE'RE JUST GONNA PUT IT ALL THE WAY AT THE TOP FOR NOW, GET IT STRAIGHTENED OUT LATER. WELL NOW THAT WE'VE GOT OUR STEERING COMPONENTS ALL INSTALLED IT'S TIME TO MOVE BACK TO THE BRAKES, STARTING WITH THIS DUST SHIELD THAT CAME WITH OUR SPINDLES FROM MPS AUTO SALVAGE. NORMALLY THESE THINGS RIVET INTO PLACE, BUT JUST TO MAKE IT A LITTLE EASIER IN CASE WE DECIDE TO REMOVE THEM LATER OR INSTALL SOME BRAKE COOLING DUCTS BACK HERE, I'M JUST GONNA BOLT THEM IN PLACE WITH THESE BUTTON HEADS.
WE'RE USING SOME BLUE LOCTITE, WHICH IS A MEDIUM STRENGTH THREAD LOCKER FOR OUR ARP CALIPER BRACKET BOLTS.
WE'LL ADD THIS BRAKE PARTS LUBRICANT THAT CAME WITH OUR EBC KIT. WELL WE'VE GOT OUR PADS INSTALLED IN OUR CALIPERS. SO WE'RE READY TO INSTALL IT.
(TOMMY)>> A WHILE BACK WE DID A ONE OUR SPECIAL WHERE YOU THE VIEWERS GOT TO VOTE ON WHAT THE TOP 10 MUSCLE CARS WERE, AND WE'VE STILL GOT THAT FOOTAGE OF COURSE, AND ONE OF THE TOP THREE WAS THIS CAR RIGHT HERE, 1969 MUSTANG MACH ONE SUPER COBRAJET. [ tires squealing ]
(TOMMY)>> MUSTANGS, YOU CAN EITHER LOVE THEM OR HATE THEM BUT YOU CAN'T DENY THEIR PLACE IN HISTORY, ESPECIALLY IN THE CASE OF THE '69 428 COBRAJET. 1969 WAS THE YEAR OF FIRSTS. FIRST MAN ON THE MOON, FIRST PASSENGER FLIGHT FOR THE BOEING 747, AND THIS WAS THE FIRST GENERATION FOR THE MACH ONE. MACH ONES WERE VERY POPULAR, CLASSY, AND WERE OFFERED WITH DIFFERENT ENGINE PACKAGES AND OPTIONS, BUT IT WAS THE 428 COBRAJET THAT MADE A STATEMENT.
(MARK)>> IT'S LIKE NOTHING ELSE. IT TAKES YOU BACK. I MEAN IF YOU WERE YOUNG WHEN YOU FIRST GOT IN A CAR LIKE THAT IT TAKES YOU STRAIGHT BACK TO THOSE DAYS.
(TOMMY)>> IT'S AS IF THE FORD DESIGN TEAM SAID WE NEED SEXY, SLEEK, SINISTER, WITH A SPORT ROOF, SIDE SCOOPS, SPOILER AND STRIPES, THAT'S JACK RABBIT FAST. RATED AT 335 HORSES, THE 428'S WERE DELIVERING MORE LIKE 400 HORSES AND OVER 450 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE.
(MARK)>> SIZE MATTERS! DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU IT DOESN'T.
(TOMMY)>> THAT MEANS IT WOULD LIKELY LEAVE YOU IN A CLOUD OF SMOKE AT THE STOP LIGHT. THIS NEW MACH ONE PONY CAME WITH ALL THE GOODS. CLASSIC MUSTANG BODY LINES, A FASTBACK TOP WITH REAR WINDOW LOUVRES AND REAR SPOILER, SIDE SCOOPS, ALONG WITH HEAD LAMPS IN THE FRONT GRILL. SEALING THE DEAL WAS A SET OF HOOD PINS, THE TWO TONE MACH ONE BADGING, AND THE ICING ON THE CAKE, A FUNCTIONAL SHAKER HOOD SCOOP. YOU SEE FORD WASN'T MESSING AROUND IN THE DAYS OF THE PERFORMANCE WARS. THIS BIG BLOCK BEAST WAS A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH ON THE STREETS AS WELL AS THE TRACK. THE INTERIOR PACKAGE IS CRISP AND CLEAN, WITH A GENEROUS LAYOUT OF THE WOOD GRAIN DASH AND GAUGES. EASY ON THE EYES, THE MACH ONE STILL HAS THE SASSY LOOK OF THE FIRST PONIES, BUT IF YOU EVER SEE A SHAKER HOOD SCOOP ON A '69 FASTBACK WATCH YOUR STEP. MACH ONE MIGHT BE KNOWN FOR THE RALLY DAYS, BUT A 428 COBRA WILL DEAL A DEADLY BITE TO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING THAT PICKS A FIGHT WITH IT OFF THE LINE.
1969 WAS A BIG YEAR FOR THE MUSTANG. ALONG WITH THAT SUPER COBRAJET YOU COULD GET A FEW OTHER PERFORMANCE PACKAGES, LIKE THE BOSS 302 AND THE BOSS 429.
(NARRATOR)>> STILL AHEAD, WE'LL SWAP THAT RATTY OLD REAR END FOR A SHINY NEW MODEL!
(TOMMY)>> HEY Y'ALL, WELCOME BACK. WELL I'M STILL PLUCKING AWAY AT GETTING THIS CHARGER READY FOR SOME BODY WORK. Y'ALL GO SEE MARC AND SEE WHAT HE'S GOT GOING ON. [ welder crackling ]
(MARC)>> WELL WE'VE GOT OUR FRONT SUSPENSION ON OUR '81 COBRA ALL WRAPPED UP WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THAT SWAY BAR, WHICH WE'LL INSTALL LATER ON. WE ALSO UPGRADED TO LARGER COBRA BRAKES UP THERE, AS WELL AS THE FIVE LUG, BUT BACK HERE ON THE BACK, WELL WE'VE GOT A LOT OF UPGRADING TO DO. THIS THING STILL HAS FOUR LUG AXLES, AND THEY'RE ONLY 28 SPLINE FROM THE FACTORY, WHICH IS NOT GONNA HANDLE THAT POWER WE'RE GONNA THROW AT IT. ALSO HAS DRUM BRAKES, BUT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM WITH THIS THING IS THE FACT THAT IT'S A SEVEN AND A HALF INCH REAR, MEANING IT'S ONLY GOT A SEVEN AND A HALF INCH RING GEAR. IT'S NOT REALLY STRONG ENOUGH TO HANDLE THE POWER WE'RE GONNA MAKE. NOW LATER FOX BODIES HAD AN EIGHTEIGHT REAR, EIGHT POINT EIGHT INCH RING GEAR, WHICH IS A LOT STRONGER AND THE AFTERMARKET HAS A LOT OF SUPPORT TO UPGRADE THEM. THAT'S THE PROBLEM. THIS IS THE SOLUTION. THIS IS MOSIER'S M-88 MUSCLE PACK CRATE REAR END. THIS THING COMES WITH ALL THE MOSIER STUFF THAT THEY'VE BEEN MAKING FOR YEARS TO MAKE AN EIGHTEIGHT STRONGER BUT WITH A BRAND NEW HOUSING AND COMPLETE AND READY TO BOLT IN. WE CHOSE A WAVE TRACK 31 SPLINE DIFF, 31 SPLINE AXLES TO GO WITH IT, WITH THE FIVE LUG, AND WE ALSO CHOSE 3.55 GEARS. NOW SINCE THIS THING IS A DIRECT BOLT IN, IN ORDER TO GET THIS ONE IN WE'VE GOT TO GET THAT OLD ONE OUT.
THE UPPER SHOCK MOUNTS ARE ACCESSED BY LIFTING THE HATCH AND REMOVING THE ACCESS PANEL. WE'LL USE SOME WD 40 RUST RELEASE SPRAY ON THE SUSPENSION BOLTS TO MAKE THEM EASIER TO REMOVE.
THEN IT'S TIME TO UNBOLT THE CONTROL ARMS FROM THE BODY. [ drill spinning ]
(MARC)>> SOME ARE HARDER TO GET TO WITH THE IMPACT GUN. SO WE'LL USE A RATCHETING WRENCH.
WE'LL ALSO UNDO THE BRAKE HOSE FROM THE HARD LINE SINCE IT WILL STAY WITH THE OLD REAR.
NOW IT'S TIME TO SET THE REAR DOWN ON A STAND AND KNOCK OUT THOSE BOLTS WE UNFASTENED.
[ hammer tapping ]
(TOMMY)>> NO DOUBT YOU GUYS HAVE GOT A LOT OF MONEY IN YOUR RIDE, AND ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE COMPONENTS CAN BE THE TRANSMISSION. WELL IF IT'S AN AUTOMATIC HERE'S A GREAT WAY TO PROTECT THAT INVESTMENT. ROYAL PURPLE MAX ATF IS A SYNTHETIC HIGH PERFORMANCE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID WITH AN ULTRA LOW FRICTION COEFFICIENT AS WELL AS A HIGH FILM STRENGTH, WHICH REDUCE HEAT AND WEAR ON YOUR TRANS. IT ALSO HAS A LONGER FLUID LIFE THAN MOST. REMEMBER HEAT IS THE NUMBER ONE KILLER OF A TRANSMISSION, AND MAX ATF WILL KEEP IT COOL AND HAPPY FOR A LONG TIME TO COME.
(NARRATOR)>> STILL AHEAD, TIME TO GET THAT NEW REAR END INSTALLED.
(MARC)>> HEY FOLKS, WELCOME BACK. WELL WE'RE JUST ABOUT READY TO GET OUR NEW REAR END UP UNDER OUR FOX BODY MUSTANG, BUT IF YOU NOTICED EARLIER WHEN I REMOVED THE OLD ONE I LEFT EVERYTHING ATTACHED TO IT. WELL THAT'S BECAUSE WE GOT ALL NEW STUFF FROM QAONE THAT WE GOT WITH OUR SUSPENSION KIT. EVERYTHING YOU SEE HERE ON THE TABLE CAME WITH THE STUFF THAT WE'VE ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE FRONT AS PART OF QAONE'S LEVEL THREE HANDLING KIT. IT COMES WITH TUBULAR LOWER CONTROL ARMS WITH POLYURETHANE BUSHINGS, ADJUSTABLE UPPERS, OF COURSE QAONE'S DOUBLE ADJUSTABLE COIL OVERS, AS WELL AS A LARGER SWAY BAR. THE KIT ALSO COMES WITH ALL THE HARDWARE NEEDED TO GET IT INSTALLED, AND I'M GONNA START WITH THESE UPPER CONTROL ARMS.
WE'LL INSTALL THESE ONTO THE CAR USING THE ORIGINAL HARDWARE, LEAVING THEM LOOSE FOR NOW. THE IDEAL PLAN IS TO TIGHTEN THEM WHEN THE WEIGHT OF THE CAR IS ON THE SUSPENSION. THIS LUBRICANT, WHICH CAME WITH THE KIT, HELPS WITH ASSEMBLY AND PREVENT SQUEAKY NOISES. THE SLEEVES NEED TO BE PUSHED INTO THE BUSHING, AND A LITTLE LUBE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUSHING MAKES THEM SLIDE INTO PLACE NICE AND EASY.
NEXT UP ARE THE SHOCKS. WE'LL BOLT THEM IN FROM THE TOP AND TIGHTEN THEM DOWN. [ impact drill spinning ]
(MARC)>> NOW THE LAST THING WE NEED TO DO BEFORE WE CAN GET OUR REAR END BOLTED INTO OUR MUSTANG IS GET THE UPPER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS PRESSED IN THE REAR END HOUSING. NOW MOSIER OFFERED TO HAVE THAT DONE FOR US ALREADY, AND THEY EVEN GAVE US A COUPLE OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS. COULD HAVE DONE SOLID OR STOCK. NOW WE WENT AHEAD AND WENT FOR THE STOCK BUT TOLD THEM TO LEAVE THEM OUT BECAUSE WE NEEDED TO INSTALL THE POLYURETHANE ONES THAT CAME FROM QAONE. THE PROBLEM IS YOU'VE GOT TO INSTALL THIS INTO THE HOUSING OF THE ORIGINAL RUBBER ONE. SO WE'RE GONNA DRILL THOSE OUT. THESE THINGS CAN BE A REAL PAIN BUT THIS NEAT LITTLE TRICK WORKS LIKE A CHARM. RUNNING THE BIT AROUND THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUSHING CAN QUICKLY DIG IT OUT OF THE CASING. SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIGHT WITH IT. WE'LL HIT THE CASINGS WITH SOME WD 40. THEN KNOCK THEM INTO THE REAR END HOUSING. [ hammer tapping metal ]
(MARC)>> NEXT IS TO INSTALL THESE POLY BUSHINGS.
NOW WE CAN LOWER THE CAR DOWN TO MEET ITS NEW REAR END AND START BOLTING UP THE CONTROL ARMS.
NEXT UP IS THE LOWER SHOCK MOUNT.
WELL WE MADE SOME GOOD HEADWAY ON OUR FOX BODY MUSTANG HERE, AND HOPEFULLY NEXT TIME YOU SEE US WE'RE GONNA BE INSTALLING THAT ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION.
(TOMMY)>> NUH, UH, THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE US WE'RE GONNA BE DOING SOME BODY WORK ON THIS CHARGER. IT'S TIME!
(MARC)>> AH #@%á. WHEN IT COMES TO WELDERS AND WELDING SAFETY GEAR WE TURN TO LINCOLN ELECTRIC, AND ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECES OF SAFETY GEAR YOU NEED WHEN YOU GET READY TO FIRE UP YOUR WELDER IS A HELMET. THIS IS LINCOLN'S VIKING 33-50 SERIES HELMET. IT'S THEIR TOP OF THE LINE MODEL WITH THE HIGHEST RATED OPTICAL CLARITY, PROVIDING A CLEAR AND MORE NATURAL VIEW OF THE WELD PUDDLE. IT'S GOT THIS EXTRA LARGE VIEWING AREA, AND IT'S LIGHTWEIGHT AND COMFORTABLE TO WEAR. COME IN A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT COLORS BUT MINE'S GOOD OLE RED, WHITE, AND BLUE. WELL THAT'S ALL THE TIME WE HAVE FOR TODAY FOLKS. SO UNTIL NEXT TIME GO TO POWERNATION TV DOT COM AND CHECK IT OUT.
