(MARC)>> NOW TO KICK THIS THING OFF WE'RE GONNA START WITH THE HANDLING, NAMELY THE SUSPENSION. NOW WE GOT THIS SET OF LOWERING SPRINGS FROM SUMMIT RACING. THIS IS FOR THE FRONT AND THE REAR. IT'S GONNA LOWER THE CAR JUST A BIT TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE, BUT IT'S ALSO GOING TO HELP THE HANDLING. THEY'VE GOT A PROGRESSIVE RATE AND THEY'RE BLACK POWDER COATED, AND WE'RE NOT JUST GONNA STOP THERE. WE'RE GONNA DO THE SWAY BARS AS WELL. WE WENT WITH A LARGER DIAMETER SET THAT WE ALSO GOT FROM SUMMIT RACING. THESE ARE ACTUALLY AN INCH AND A QUARTER IN DIAMETER. NOW THEY'VE GOT THIS HAMMERED POWDER COATING. SO THEY'RE GONNA LOOK GOOD, BUT THEY'RE ALSO GOING TO IMPROVE THE HANDLING AS WELL. THE KIT ALSO CAME WITH THESE SWAY BAR MOUNT BRACKETS AND BUSHINGS. THESE ARE POLYURETHANE AND COME WITH THE ZIRK FITTINGS, BUT BEFORE WE GET ALL THIS STUFF IN WE'VE GOT TO GET THAT OLD STUFF OUT. WE'LL GET THE WHEEL AND TIRE OUT OF THE WAY FIRST TO REVEAL THE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION. THEN WE'LL DISCONNECT SOME STUFF BOLTED TO THE STRUT LIKE THE SWAY BAR LINK, THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR...

...AND THE BRAKE HOSE. UP TOP THREE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE UPPER STRUT MOUNT TO THE STRUT TOWER NEED TO BE REMOVED, FOLLOWED BY THE TWO BIG BOLTS THAT HOLD THE STRUT TO THE SPINDLE.

A FEW TAPS AND THE BOLTS SLIDE RIGHT OUT.

THE STRUT ASSEMBLY IS LOOSE AND CAN BE TAKEN OUTS. THERE YOU GO!

(TOMMY)>> THANK YOU SIR. NOW WITH THIS THING OUT WE CAN GO AHEAD AND DISASSEMBLE IT AND SWAP OUT THOSE SPRINGS. IT'S NECESSARY TO USE A SPRING COMPRESSOR TO REMOVE THE SPRING FROM THE STRUT CAUSE IT'S UNDER TENSION. PUT SOME PRESSURE ON THE SPRING. THE NUT HOLDING THE UPPER MOUNT TO THE STRUT CAN BE REMOVED AND SET ASIDE.

THEN THE BOOT AND STRUT SLIDE OUT. THE SPRING CAN BE REMOVED AND THE NEW SPRING INSTALLED USING THE SAME STEPS, BUT IN REVERSE.

(TOMMY)>> NOW A FEW OF YOU GUYS MAY HAVE CROSSED THIS BRIDGE BEFORE. YOU'RE OUT SCOURING AROUND IN THE JUNKYARDS TRYING TO FIND YOURSELF A TILT COLUMN FOR YOUR RIDE AND GUESS WHAT? YOU FIND ONE BUT THE KEYS ARE MISSING. I'M GONNA SHOW YOU TODAY HOW TO SWAP OUT THAT LOCK CYLINDER. NOW THIS OLE JUNKERS ALREADY GOT THE HORN BUTTON AND THE NUT THAT HOLDS THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF THE WAY. SO THE NEXT STEP THAT WE NEED TO BE DOING IS GETTING A PULLER INSTALLED TO PULL THIS WHEEL. NOW THIS LITTLE SETUP ISN'T ALL THAT COMPLEX. YOU JUST NEED YOUR LITTLE BOLTS AND THE PULLER SETUP, PUT THIS THING IN PLACE.

THEN A LITTLE BIT OF WD 40 CAN ALWAYS MAKE THIS BETTER.

NO THIS DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT'S DOING MUCH BUT THAT PULLER'S THE WAY TO GO. NOW BE CAREFUL AND DON'T YANK THAT WIRE OUT CAUSE YOU'RE GONNA NEED THAT. THAT GOES TO THE HORN BUTTON. I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND TWIST THIS THING OUT AND REMOVE ALL THAT.

NOW IF YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND YOU GET A LITTLE BIT WORRIED ABOUT HOW IT GOES BACK TOGETHER JUST MAKE SURE TO LAY IT OUT IN THE WAY IT CAME APART. THAT'LL HELP YOU WHENEVER YOU GO TO REINSTALL EVERYTHING, AND JUST REVERSE THE ORDER. NOW DOWN OFF IN HERE IS A LITTLE BITY SNAP RING WE'VE GOT TO GET OUT. THIS COOL TOOL WE GOT CAN HELP US DO THAT.

(TOMMY)>> NOW AT FIRST GLANCE, TO DO THIS SWAP, I THOUGHT IT WAS GONNA BE PRETTY INVOLVED BUT IT'S NOT GONNA BE ALL THAT DIFFICULT. THIS CAR HAS WHAT I'M GONNA CALL AN UPPER AND LOWER KMEMBER. THIS LITTLE PIECE OF ALUMINUM, WELL LET'S CALL IT A BIG PIECE OF ALUMINUM, IS ACTUALLY JUST A REMOVABLE BRACE. SO WE'VE GOT TO TAKE OUT A FEW BOLTS AND THEN WE CAN DROP THE SWAY BAR OUT. (TOMMY)>> NOW WE'VE GOT TWO NUTS ON THIS SIDE AND TWO ON THE OTHER SIDE TO DROP OUT THIS SWAY BAR, AND HOPEFULLY WITH THOSE REMOVED WE CAN SNAKE THAT THING OUT, BUT I'M NOT REAL SURE. WE MAY HAVE TO TAKE THIS LITTLE END LINK OFF AND THE TIE RODS, BUT WE'LL SEE. WE'LL JUST ZIP THOSE FOUR NUTS OUT THAT HOLD THE SWAY BAR MOUNTS IN PLACE, AND THEN WE CAN START WORKING THE SWAY BAR OUT, WHICH IS A LOT EASIER THAN IT LOOKED.

(TOMMY)>> THEN THE STRUTS GET REATTACHED TO THE SPINDLE ALONG WITH THE BRAKE HOSE, WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND THE SWAY BAR LINK.

WE DON'T NEED TO APPLY MUCH PRESSURE. JUST ENOUGH TO RELIEVE THE PRESSURE THAT'S ON THE CONTROL ARM BOLTS. [ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> REMOVE THE SHOCK FROM THE LOWER ARM, AND THEN REMOVE THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE CONTROL ARM TO THE SPINDLE.

WE CAN THEN RELIEVE THE PRESSURE. THE ISOLATOR PAD NEEDS TO BE MOVED OVER TO THE NEW SPRING, AND THE SPRING CAN GO BACK INTO THE CAR. THE CONTROL ARM GETS MANIPULATED INTO PLACE WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM THE POLE JACK, AND ALL THE BOLTS CAN GO BACK ON IN THE REVERSE ORDER THEY WERE REMOVED.

(MARC)>> WE'VE GOT OUR REAR SPRINGS ALL SWAPPED OUT AND EVERYTHING'S BACK TOGETHER, AND IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON TO GETTING THAT REAR SWAY BAR SWAPPED OUT, BUT IT'S GONNA BE A LOT EASIER TO GET THAT THING OUT OF THERE IF THIS EXHAUST WAS MOVED. WELL IT JUST SO HAPPENS WE'VE GOT BIG PLANS FOR THIS THING LATER ON AS FAR AS ADDING POWER, AND UPGRADING THE EXHAUST SYSTEMS IS ONE OF THINGS ON THE LIST. SO I'M JUST GONNA GO AHEAD AND MAKE A COUPLE OF CUTS HERE, GET THE MUFFLER OUT OF THE WAY, SWAP THAT SWAY BAR OUT. SINCE THIS ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS ONE PIECE OUR EXHAUST UPGRADES WILL REQUIRE US TO CUT UP THE FACTORY SYSTEM ANYWAY. SO WE'RE GONNA MAKE THESE CUTS CLOSER TO THE REAR. JUST ENOUGH TO GET THE MUFFLER REMOVED AND OUT OF THE WAY OF THE SWAY BAR.

NOW THE BOLTS HOLDING THE SWAY BAR IN CAN BE REMOVED, AND THE BAR JUST SLIDES RIGHT OUT.

WELL WE'VE GOT OUR SWAY BAR LINKS SWAPPED OUT ONTO THE NEW SWAY AND INSTALLED OUR BUSHINGS AND BRACKETS. SO WE JUST NEED TO GET THIS THING BOLTED IN AND WE CAN MOVE ON. [ drill spinning ]

(MARC)>> NOW WE'RE GONNA MOVE ON TO THE BRAKES. NOW SINCE THIS CAR HAS BREMBO BRAKES ALL THE WAY AROUND IT'S GOT A REALLY GOOD BRAKING SYSTEM, BUT IT COULD USE SOME UPGRADED PADS AND ROTORS, WHICH WE WENT TO EBC FOR. WE DECIDED TO GO WITH THE SPORT ROTORS FOR THE FRONT AND REAR. THEY'VE GOT A BLACK THERMIC COATING AND THEY ARE DIMPLED AND SLOTTED, AND WE ALSO DECIDED TO GO WITH THEIR BLUE STUFF PADS. NOW IN EUROPE THESE ARE ACTUALLY RACE PADS ONLY BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT LEGAL FOR THE STREET, BUT THEY ARE HERE IN THE US. SO EBC CALLS THESE THEIR RACE AND SPORT PAD. FIRST WE'LL GET THE PADS REMOVED. THEN THOSE CALIPER BOLTS CAN GET MOVED OUT OF THE WAY AND THE CALIPER CAN BE SET ASIDE. ONE BOLT HOLDS THE FACTORY ROTOR TO THE HUB, AND THE ROTOR SLIPS OFF. THE NEW ROTOR JUST SLIDES BACK ONTO THE HUB AND THE BOLT GETS REINSTALLED. CALIPER GOES BACK ON. THEN THE NEW PADS SLIP INTO PLACE AND GET HELD ON WITH THE FACTORY HARDWARE.

THAT PRETTY MUCH DOES IT FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM ON OUR CAMARO BUT WE'VE GOT SOMETHING ELSE WE WANT TO ADDRESS.

(TOMMY)>> THERE'S SOMETHING ON THIS FENDER THAT'S BEEN BUGGING ME SINCE WE DRUG THIS CAMARO IN HERE. LET ME SHOW YOU WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. IT'S THIS GNARLY SCRATCH RIGHT THROUGH HERE. WELL IT SEEMS LIKE WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET IT OUT OF THERE WITH SOME CUT MAX FROM SONAX, AND THEN WE'RE GONNA FOLLOW THAT UP WITH SOME PERFECT FINISH. THIS CUT MAX IS THE SAME STUFF WE USED ON OUR '69 CHARGER A WHILE BACK. IT GAS DEGRADING ABRASIVES. SO ONE STEP BRINGS OUT THE SCRATCH AND POLISHES IT TO A SHINE. THEN WE CAN USE SOME SONAX POLISH ON A FOAM PAD TO REMOVE ANY SWIRL MARKS THAT CUT MAX LEFT BEHIND. WELL THAT TURNED OUT ALL RIGHT, AND IT DIDN'T TAKE A WHOLE LOT OF ELBOW GREASE TO GET IT THERE.
