(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO TRUCK TECH, AND TODAY WE'VE GOT OUR HANDS ON AN ALL ALUMINUM 2015 F-150. WE WANTED TO GET ONE OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS WAS ABOUT.
NOW ONE THING I REALLY LIKE ABOUT THIS F-150 IS THE FACT THEY WERE ABLE TO DROP ABOUT 500 POUNDS OVER THE PREVIOUS MODEL WITH THE CAB AND THE BED. THEY ALSO DROPPED ABOUT 60 TO 70 POUNDS OFF THE FRAME BUT ADDED TWO TO THREE TIMES MORE STRENGTH. ONE THING THAT DIDN'T GO DOWN ON THIS TRUCK WAS THE PRICE. IT CAME IN AT JUST A LITTLE OVER $58,000 DOLLARS. NOW FORD ALSO CLAIMS TO HAVE THE MAXIMUM TOWING CAPABILITY WITH THIS TRUCK AS WELL. WITH A TRAILER YOU CAN HAUL A LITTLE OVER 12,000 POUNDS, AND THE IN BED CAPABILITY IS AROUND 3,300 POUNDS.
SO NEEDLESS TO SAY IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANT TO MOVE, I THINK THIS TRUCK WOULD DO IT. NOW FORD CLAIMS THAT THIS NEW LIGHTER WEIGHT TRUCK CAN GET UP TO 19 MILES PER GALLON CITY AND
UP TO 26 HIGHWAY. AND YOU GUYS THAT FIND YOURSELF OUT ON THE ROAD A LOT, YOU KNOW HOW THIS CAN IMPACT YOUR WALLET. ONE THING THAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME ABOUT THIS TRUCK WAS HOW WELL INSULATED THE INTERIOR WAS. EVEN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY IT WAS ONE OF THE QUIETEST TRUCKS I'VE EVER DRIVEN. I KNOW ONE THING A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BRAGGING ABOUT IS THIS THREE POINT FIVE TWIN TURBO VSIX. NOW YOU THINK OF VSIX AND YOU DON'T THINK A WHOLE LOT OF HORSEPOWER, BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT IN THIS HALF TON TRUCK SHE'S PRETTY PEPPY, THAT'S AWESOME. NOW ALL THAT POWER IS DELIVERED TO THE GROUND THROUGH AN ELECTRONIC SIX SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WHICH MAKES THIS TRUCK EFFORTLESS TO DRIVE. SO LET'S GET IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE.
NOW THE EXTERIOR OF THIS TRUCK LOOKS AWESOME, AND THEY DEFINITELY BUILT THE INTERIOR TO MATCH. THEY'VE GOT LED'S EVERYWHERE, LEATHER ALL THROUGHOUT, A COUPLE OF BIG DISPLAY SCREENS IN THE DASH, AND ABOUT EVERY OPTION YOU CAN IMAGINE.
BUT WITH THE PRICE OF THIS TRUCK THAT'S TO BE EXPECTED. AND AS YOU GUYS KNOW THIS IS TRUCK TECH AND WE CAN'T STAND TO LEAVE ANYTHING ALONE. SO WE'RE GONNA THROW A FEW PARTS AT THIS THING AND SEE IF WE CAN PULL A LITTLE MORE HORSEPOWER OUT OF THAT ALREADY PRETTY POTENT VSIX. NOW SINCE OUR BUDDIES OVER AT LIVERNOIS MOTORSPORTS LOANED US THIS TRUCK, WE DECIDED WE'D TRY OUT A FEW OF THEIR PARTS WHILE WE WERE AT IT. WE PICKED UP THIS COLD AIR INTAKE THAT COMES WITH A FILTER, THE INTAKE TUBE, AND ALL THE HARDWARE TO INSTALL ALONG WITH THIS TUNER THAT THEY CALL A "MY CALIBRATOR" THAT COMES WITH A FEW DIFFERENT TUNES RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. IT HAS A STAGE ONE TUNE THAT WORKS WITH 87 OCTANE FOR LOWER GAINS, WHICH ARE STILL PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. BUT FOR YOU GUYS THAT WANT BIG HORSEPOWER GAINS WITH JUST THE PUSH OF A BUTTON THEY HAVE A STAGE THREE TUNE. BUT THEY ALSO RECOMMEND WITH THE USE OF THIS TUNER YOU PICK UP THEIR EVEN FLOW 160 DEGREE THERMOSTAT. AND FOR YOU GUYS AT HOME, YOU KNOW THE COOLER WE CAN KEEP OUR ENGINES THE BETTER THEY'RE GONNA PERFORM. BUT SINCE I'M MAINLY JUST A PAINT AND BODY GUY WE'VE SOME NEW HELP IN THE SHOP. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT KIND OF POWER GAINS THESE NEW PARTS ARE GONNA PROVIDE.
(JEREMY)>> NOW WE COULD GO DIRECTLY TO FORD AND GET THEIR HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE NUMBERS, BUT WE WANTED TO THROW THIS TRUCK ON THE DYNO AND GET SOME REAL WORLD NUMBERS. AND BESIDES WITH A CHASSIS DYNO WE'RE NOT JUST FINDING OUT ENGINE HORSEPOWER, WE'RE ACTUALLY SEEING HOW MUCH WE'RE PUTTING TO THE GROUND. NOW WE ALWAYS TRY TO AVERAGE THREE RUNS, AND THIS TIME WE CAME UP WITH A BASE LINE OF 293 HORSEPOWER AND 345 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE.
(LT)>> INSTALLATION IS FAIRLY STRAIGHT FORWARD. JUST START BY REMOVING THE FACTORY AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY AND INTAKE TUBES.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER TO REMOVE YOUR FACTORY
INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AS YOU'LL BE
REUSING THIS LATER ON. WHEN YOU'RE REMOVING THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING TO
CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT, BE SURE TO USE A CLEAN DRAIN PAN UNDERNEATH TO COLLECT THE COOLANT. THIS STUFF'S PRETTY EXPENSIVE AND THERE'S NO REASON THAT YOU CAN'T REUSE IT. NOW BECAUSE HORSEPOWER IS HEAT AND WE'RE GONNA BE MAKING MORE OF IT, INSTALLING THIS NEW THERMOSTAT WILL ALLOW OUR ENGINE TO RUN IN A COOLER, SAFER ZONE.
THE FIRST STEP OF INSTALLING THE COLD AIR INTAKE IS INSTALLING THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT WE PREVIOUSLY REMOVED. LIVERNOIS USES REENFORCED SILICONE COUPLERS TO MAKE ALL THE CONNECTIONS. NOW IF YOU'RE LIKE ME YOU'LL TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA TIME AND LINE UP ALL THE HOSE CLAMPS SO EVERYTHING LOOKS JUST RIGHT. YOU'LL HAVE TO CLOCK THIS ELBOW WHERE WE INSTALLED THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR SO THE AIR FILTER LINES UP IN THE CORRECT POSITION.
WITH THE DUCTING MOUNTED YOU CAN PLUG IN THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND INSTALL THE AIR FILTER. AND NOW YOU'RE DONE.

AND BY SIMPLY FOLLOWING THE ON SCREEN PROMPTS YOU CAN SELECT BETWEEN STOCK, 91, OR 93 OCTANE TUNE OPTIONS. OBVIOUSLY BEING TRUCK TECH WE WENT FOR THE 93.
NOW THE PROGRAMMER CAN READ AND ALTER MANY DIFFERENT SETTINGS WITHIN YOUR TRUCK'S COMPUTER LIKE IGNITION TIMING AND BOOST PRESSURE TO GIVE YOU THAT OPTIMAL HORSEPOWER. AND IT WILL ALSO READ AND CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES. NOW THAT WE HAVE THE TUNER INSTALLED AS WELL AS THE COLD AIR INTAKE WE'VE GOT ONE LAST MODIFICATION IN MIND FOR THIS ECOBOOST. IT WILL HELP IT EXHALE QUITE A BIT EASIER AND IT'LL MAKE IT SOUND AS GOOD AS IT'S GOING TO PERFORM. WE WENT TO FORD RACING AND PICKED UP ONE OF THEIR SPORT SERIES CAT BACKS BY BORLA. IT FEATURES ALL STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION, COMES WITH A RESONATOR AND A MUFFLER WITH DUAL TAIL PIPES.
FOR THE EXHAUST TIPS WE OPTED FOR THAT SINISTER BLACK FINISH. INCLUDED IN THE KIT ARE ALL THE NECESSARY CLAMPS, HANGERS, AND HARDWARE NEEDED TO FINISH THE INSTALLATION. AND THE BEST PART IS IT WON'T VOID YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT'S MADE BY FORD.
WITH THE TRUCK UP IN THE AIR IT'S JUST TWO BOLTS, AND THIS ONE CAME OFF EASIER THAN I EXPECTED.
THIS ALL STARTS BY INSTALLING THE MID PIPE WITH RESONATOR. NOW IT HELPS TO HAVE A JACK STAND OR A PULL JACK TO HOLD EVERYTHING IN PLACE WHILE YOU'RE MAKING THE CONNECTIONS.
SOMETIMES IT'S EASIER TO ASSEMBLE PIECES ON THE GROUND, JUST DON'T FORGET THE CLAMPS.
SINCE THIS KIT IS DESIGNED BY FORD IT PLUGS RIGHT INTO THE FACTORY HANGERS, MAKING FOR A QUICK AND EASY INSTALLATION. BECAUSE WE'RE GOING WITH A DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM, WE HAVE TO ADD TWO NEW HANGERS. THEY INSTALL ON THE LOWER SHACKLE BOLTS.
A SHOT OF WD 40 HELPS THE EXHAUST HANGER SLIDE ON.
NOW WE REMOVED THE SPARE TIRE AND HEAT SHIELD SO WE COULD BETTER SHOW YOU HOW THIS KIT INSTALLS, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THIS KIT WILL WORK WITH THE FACTORY SPARE TIRE, HEAT SHIELDS, AND THE RECEIVER HITCH IN PLACE. YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMOVE ANY OF IT.
AS WITH ANY EXHAUST SYSTEM, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE
ALL THE PIECES INSTALLED AND LINED UP WHERE YOU WANT THEM BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN ANY OF THE CLAMPS.
BACK ON ENGINE POWER'S CHASSIS DYNO WE RECORDED A
BEST RUN OF 371 HORSEPOWER AND 494 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE. HOWEVER TO GET A PROPER AVERAGE WE THREW OUT THE HIGHS AND LOWS AND WE CAME UP WITH 362 HORSEPOWER AND 468 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE ON THE 93 OCTANE TUNE. NOW THAT MEANS WE GAINED 69 HORSEPOWER AND 123 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE, BUT THAT'S NOT ALL YOU'LL GET FROM THIS TUNER.
(DAN)>> PEDAL FEEL, TRANSMISSION SHIFTING, TORQUE REDUCTION, ALL THAT STUFF FROM THE FACTORY IS SO AGGRESSIVE. IT ALMOST MAKES THE TRUCK NO FUN TO DRIVE.
SO WE START TAKING SOME OF THE TORQUE REDUCTION OUT, ADDING THE PEDAL FEEL, MAKING IT SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DRIVER FRIENDLY. A GUY STEPS ON THE GAS THE TRUCK GOES, NOT I'VE GOT TO GET HALF WAY INTO THE THROTTLE FOR THE THING TO ACTUALLY MOVE. SO THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE.

WHEELS AND NEW TIRES. IT'S ALL TODAY HERE ON TRUCK TECH.
(JEREMY)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO TRUCK TECH, AND TODAY WE'VE GOT OUR HANDS ON AN ALL ALUMINUM 2015 F-150. WE WANTED TO GET ONE OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SEE WHAT ALL THE FUSS WAS ABOUT.
NOW ONE THING I REALLY LIKE ABOUT THIS F-150 IS THE FACT THEY WERE ABLE TO DROP ABOUT 500 POUNDS OVER THE PREVIOUS MODEL WITH THE CAB AND THE BED. THEY ALSO DROPPED ABOUT 60 TO 70 POUNDS OFF THE FRAME BUT ADDED TWO TO THREE TIMES MORE STRENGTH. ONE THING THAT DIDN'T GO DOWN ON THIS TRUCK WAS THE PRICE. IT CAME IN AT JUST A LITTLE OVER $58,000 DOLLARS. NOW FORD ALSO CLAIMS TO HAVE THE MAXIMUM TOWING CAPABILITY WITH THIS TRUCK AS WELL. WITH A TRAILER YOU CAN HAUL A LITTLE OVER 12,000 POUNDS, AND THE IN BED CAPABILITY IS AROUND 3,300 POUNDS.
SO NEEDLESS TO SAY IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU WANT TO MOVE, I THINK THIS TRUCK WOULD DO IT. NOW FORD CLAIMS THAT THIS NEW LIGHTER WEIGHT TRUCK CAN GET UP TO 19 MILES PER GALLON CITY AND

ONE THING THAT REALLY IMPRESSED ME ABOUT THIS TRUCK WAS HOW WELL INSULATED THE INTERIOR WAS. EVEN OUT ON THE HIGHWAY IT WAS ONE OF THE QUIETEST TRUCKS I'VE EVER DRIVEN. I KNOW ONE THING A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN BRAGGING ABOUT IS THIS THREE POINT FIVE TWIN TURBO VSIX. NOW YOU THINK OF VSIX AND YOU DON'T THINK A WHOLE LOT OF HORSEPOWER, BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT IN THIS HALF TON TRUCK SHE'S PRETTY PEPPY, THAT'S AWESOME. NOW ALL THAT POWER IS DELIVERED TO THE GROUND THROUGH AN ELECTRONIC SIX SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, WHICH MAKES THIS TRUCK EFFORTLESS TO DRIVE. SO LET'S GET IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE.

SO WE'RE GONNA THROW A FEW PARTS AT THIS THING AND SEE IF WE CAN PULL A LITTLE MORE HORSEPOWER OUT OF THAT ALREADY PRETTY POTENT VSIX. NOW SINCE OUR BUDDIES OVER AT LIVERNOIS MOTORSPORTS LOANED US THIS TRUCK, WE DECIDED WE'D TRY OUT A FEW OF THEIR PARTS WHILE WE WERE AT IT. WE PICKED UP THIS COLD AIR INTAKE THAT COMES WITH A FILTER, THE INTAKE TUBE, AND ALL THE HARDWARE TO INSTALL ALONG WITH THIS TUNER THAT THEY CALL A "MY CALIBRATOR" THAT COMES WITH A FEW DIFFERENT TUNES RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX. IT HAS A STAGE ONE TUNE THAT WORKS WITH 87 OCTANE FOR LOWER GAINS, WHICH ARE STILL PRETTY SIGNIFICANT. BUT FOR YOU GUYS THAT WANT BIG HORSEPOWER GAINS WITH JUST THE PUSH OF A BUTTON THEY HAVE A STAGE THREE TUNE. BUT THEY ALSO RECOMMEND WITH THE USE OF THIS TUNER YOU PICK UP THEIR EVEN FLOW 160 DEGREE THERMOSTAT. AND FOR YOU GUYS AT HOME, YOU KNOW THE COOLER WE CAN KEEP OUR ENGINES THE BETTER THEY'RE GONNA PERFORM. BUT SINCE I'M MAINLY JUST A PAINT AND BODY GUY WE'VE SOME NEW HELP IN THE SHOP. AND BESIDES WITH A CHASSIS DYNO WE'RE NOT JUST FINDING OUT ENGINE HORSEPOWER, WE'RE ACTUALLY SEEING HOW MUCH WE'RE PUTTING TO THE GROUND. NOW WE ALWAYS TRY TO AVERAGE THREE RUNS, AND THIS TIME WE CAME UP WITH A BASE LINE OF 293 HORSEPOWER AND 345 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE.
(LT)>> INSTALLATION IS FAIRLY STRAIGHT FORWARD. JUST START BY REMOVING THE FACTORY AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY AND INTAKE TUBES.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER TO REMOVE YOUR FACTORY
INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AS YOU'LL BE
REUSING THIS LATER ON. WHEN YOU'RE REMOVING THE THERMOSTAT HOUSING TO
CHANGE THE THERMOSTAT, BE SURE TO USE A CLEAN DRAIN PAN UNDERNEATH TO COLLECT THE COOLANT. THIS STUFF'S PRETTY EXPENSIVE AND THERE'S NO REASON THAT YOU CAN'T REUSE IT. NOW BECAUSE HORSEPOWER IS HEAT AND WE'RE GONNA BE MAKING MORE OF IT, INSTALLING THIS NEW THERMOSTAT WILL ALLOW OUR ENGINE TO RUN IN A COOLER, SAFER ZONE.
THE FIRST STEP OF INSTALLING THE COLD AIR INTAKE IS INSTALLING THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR THAT WE PREVIOUSLY REMOVED. LIVERNOIS USES REENFORCED SILICONE COUPLERS TO MAKE ALL THE CONNECTIONS. NOW IF YOU'RE LIKE ME YOU'LL TAKE A LITTLE BIT OF EXTRA TIME AND LINE UP ALL THE HOSE CLAMPS SO EVERYTHING LOOKS JUST RIGHT. YOU'LL HAVE TO CLOCK THIS ELBOW WHERE WE INSTALLED THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR SO THE AIR FILTER LINES UP IN THE CORRECT POSITION.
WITH THE DUCTING MOUNTED YOU CAN PLUG IN THE INLET AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND INSTALL THE AIR FILTER. AND NOW YOU'RE DONE.

AND IT WILL ALSO READ AND CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES. NOW THAT WE HAVE THE TUNER INSTALLED AS WELL AS THE COLD AIR INTAKE WE'VE GOT ONE LAST MODIFICATION IN MIND FOR THIS ECOBOOST. IT WILL HELP IT EXHALE QUITE A BIT EASIER AND IT'LL MAKE IT SOUND AS GOOD AS IT'S GOING TO PERFORM. WE WENT TO FORD RACING AND PICKED UP ONE OF THEIR SPORT SERIES CAT BACKS BY BORLA. IT FEATURES ALL STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION, COMES WITH A RESONATOR AND A MUFFLER WITH DUAL TAIL PIPES.
FOR THE EXHAUST TIPS WE OPTED FOR THAT SINISTER BLACK FINISH. INCLUDED IN THE KIT ARE ALL THE NECESSARY CLAMPS, HANGERS, AND HARDWARE NEEDED TO FINISH THE INSTALLATION. AND THE BEST PART IS IT WON'T VOID YOUR FACTORY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT'S MADE BY FORD.
WITH THE TRUCK UP IN THE AIR IT'S JUST TWO BOLTS, AND THIS ONE CAME OFF EASIER THAN I EXPECTED.
THIS ALL STARTS BY INSTALLING THE MID PIPE WITH RESONATOR. NOW IT HELPS TO HAVE A JACK STAND OR A PULL JACK TO HOLD EVERYTHING IN PLACE WHILE YOU'RE MAKING THE CONNECTIONS.
SOMETIMES IT'S EASIER TO ASSEMBLE PIECES ON THE GROUND, JUST DON'T FORGET THE CLAMPS.
SINCE THIS KIT IS DESIGNED BY FORD IT PLUGS RIGHT INTO THE FACTORY HANGERS, MAKING FOR A QUICK AND EASY INSTALLATION. BECAUSE WE'RE GOING WITH A DUAL EXHAUST SYSTEM, WE HAVE TO ADD TWO NEW HANGERS. THEY INSTALL ON THE LOWER SHACKLE BOLTS.
A SHOT OF WD 40 HELPS THE EXHAUST HANGER SLIDE ON.
NOW WE REMOVED THE SPARE TIRE AND HEAT SHIELD SO WE COULD BETTER SHOW YOU HOW THIS KIT INSTALLS, BUT IT'S IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THIS KIT WILL WORK WITH THE FACTORY SPARE TIRE, HEAT SHIELDS, AND THE RECEIVER HITCH IN PLACE. YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMOVE ANY OF IT.
AS WITH ANY EXHAUST SYSTEM, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE
ALL THE PIECES INSTALLED AND LINED UP WHERE YOU WANT THEM BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN ANY OF THE CLAMPS.
BACK ON ENGINE POWER'S CHASSIS DYNO WE RECORDED A
BEST RUN OF 371 HORSEPOWER AND 494 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE. HOWEVER TO GET A PROPER AVERAGE WE THREW OUT THE HIGHS AND LOWS AND WE CAME UP WITH 362 HORSEPOWER AND 468 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE ON THE 93 OCTANE TUNE. NOW THAT MEANS WE GAINED 69 HORSEPOWER AND 123 FOOT POUNDS OF TORQUE, BUT THAT'S NOT ALL YOU'LL GET FROM THIS TUNER.
(DAN)>> PEDAL FEEL, TRANSMISSION SHIFTING, TORQUE REDUCTION, ALL THAT STUFF FROM THE FACTORY IS SO AGGRESSIVE. IT ALMOST MAKES THE TRUCK NO FUN TO DRIVE.
SO WE START TAKING SOME OF THE TORQUE REDUCTION OUT, ADDING THE PEDAL FEEL, MAKING IT SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DRIVER FRIENDLY. A GUY STEPS ON THE GAS THE TRUCK GOES, NOT I'VE GOT TO GET HALF WAY INTO THE THROTTLE FOR THE THING TO ACTUALLY MOVE. SO THAT'S A BIG DIFFERENCE.
