(JOE)>> NOW WITH MORE INCOMING FUEL, WE'RE GONNA NEED A LITTLE STRONGER SPARK. SO WE'LL UPGRADE OUR DISTRIBUTOR WITH CAP, ROTOR, AND COIL. AND, LATER ADD SOME NEW WIRES AND PLUGS. WE GOT THIS WHOLE SETUP FROM ACCEL. I'LL GO MOVE THE CAR.
(CHUCK)>> WE'LL COMPLETE OUR HIGHTECH TUNEUP WITH THIS PERFORMANCE COMPUTER CHIP. NOW THIS THING'S GONNA COMPENSATE FOR SOME OF THE CHANGES THAT WE'RE MAKING UNDER THE HOOD. FOR INSTANCE, IT'S GONNA GIVE US MORE AGGRESSIVE IGNITION TIMING AND IT'S GONNA REMAP OUR FUEL DELIVERY CURVE. THIS PARTICULAR ONE COMES FROM HYPERTECH. AND WHILE WE'RE AT IT, WE'LL ALSO INSTALL A SET OF THEIR HIGH PERFORMANCE UNDERDRIVE PULLEYS.
(JOE)>> AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY AND DRAINING THE RADIATOR, WE REMOVE THE AIR CLEANER, THEN THE COOLANT HOSES, VACUUM LINES, ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, AND THE THROTTLE LINKAGE.
(CHUCK)>> REMOVE THE AIR COOLER SPACER RING BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE INJECTOR LEADS. THEN SLIDE THE GROMMET OUT THAT HOLDS THEM IN PLACE ON THE THROTTLE BODY.
(JOE)>> REMOVE THE CAP AND WIRES AND TAKE OUT THE DISTRIBUTOR. WITH THE FUEL LINES OUT OF THE WAY, YOU CAN REMOVE THE COIL AND SET THE LINKAGE ASIDE.
(CHUCK)>> FINALLY REMOVE THE MANIFOLD BOLTS AND THE MANIFOLD. ONCE YOU GET THAT OLD INTAKE OFF YOU'LL WANNA LAY IT ALONGSIDE THE NEW ONE AND MAKE SURE THAT IT'S GOT ALL THE CORRECT TAPPED HOLES AND MOUNTING PADS BECAUSE YOU'RE GONNA WANNA TRANSFER THINGS LIKE THIS EGR VALVE, VACUUM LINES, AND EVEN WATER HOSES.

(JOE)>> TO OPTIMIZE OUR FIREBIRD'S PERFORMANCE HYPERTECH RECOMMENDS WE REPLACE THE STOCK THERMOSTAT WITH THIS ONE THAT OPENS AT 180 DEGREES. AFTER ALL, COOLER TEMPS MEAN BETTER PERFORMANCE. AFTER THIS, I'LL INSTALL OUR NEW CHIP.

(JOE)>> AS WE TOLD YOU EARLIER OUR NEW CHIP HAS BEEN POWER TUNED FOR OUR NEW COMBINATION AND INSTALLING IT IS PRETTY MUCH A SNAP. FIRST REMOVE THE ACCESS COVER, THEN GENTLY PRY OUT THE OLD CHIP AND CAREFULLY PUSH IN THE NEW ONE. THAT'S IT.
(CHUCK)>> ALRIGHT. WELL HERE'S OUR OLD PULLEY AND THIS IS OUR NEW UNDER DRIVE PULLEY. NOW YOU CAN SEE IT'S A LOT SMALLER. NOW THAT'S GONNA SLOW DOWN OUR ACCESSORIES AND FREE UP A FEW MORE HORSEPOWER.
[ DRILL SPINNING ] WELL THIS IS OUR UNDERDRIVE PULLEY FOR THE ALTERNATOR AND YOU CAN SEE IT'S LARGER SO IT'LL SLOW THE ALTERNATOR DOWN. NOW, TO SWAP IT OUT, YOU START BY REMOVING THIS NUT.
REMOVE THE OLD PULLEY, INSTALL THE NEW ONE, AND REINSTALL THE NUT.
THERE WE GO. NOW THE NEW PULLEY SYSTEM COMES WITH A NEW SHORTER DRIVE BELT. THAT'S IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO COMPENSATE FOR THE DIFFERENCE IN THE SIZE OF THE PULLEYS, AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S SHORTER, IT STILL ROUTES THE SAME AS THE STOCK ONE.
(JOE)>> NOW SINCE THIS IS A BUDGET BUILDUP, WE WANNA SPEND OUR MONEY WHERE IT'S GONNA DO THE MOST GOOD. THE IMPROVEMENTS WE'VE MADE SO FAR WILL PUT INCREASED DEMANDS ON OUR AIR INTAKE SO WE'LL REPLACE THE STOCK ELEMENT WITH THIS REUSABLE POWER FILTER. NOW NOT ONLY DOES IT FLOW AIR EXTREMELY WELL, IT'S GOT TWO LAYERS OF FOAM TO TRAP EVEN THE TINIEST PARTICLES.

FOLLOW THIS WITH A GOOD VACUUMING AND DON'T FORGET TO SUCK OUT THE SIDES HERE ALONG THE EDGES WHERE ALL THAT DEBRIS COLLECTS AND HOLDS MOISTURE. NOW THAT'LL RUST OUT YOUR QUARTERS IN A HURRY. ONCE YOU'VE GOT EVERYTHING CLEANED UP YOU CAN START ON YOUR TRUNK MAKEOVER. NOW WE GOT EVERYTHING WE NEEDED FOR THIS PROJECT FROM YEAR ONE INCLUDING THE SPATTER PAINT, TOP COAT, TRUNK MAT, AND EVEN A SPARE TIRE COVER. WE'RE GONNA GET STARTED WITH THE SPATTER PAINT. BE SURE TO SHAKE THE CANS FULLY TO MIX THE CONTENTS, THEN SPRAY IT ON, KEEPING THE CAN ABOUT 12 INCHES FROM THE SURFACE. USE EVEN, SWEEPING STROKES TO PREVENT ANY RUNS OR SAGS. ONCE IT'S DRY, FOLLOW UP WITH A COAT OF CLEAR ACRYLIC. SINCE SPATTER PAINT IS WATER BASED, THE ACRYLIC SETS IT, SEALS IT, AND GIVES IT A MORE DURABLE FINISH. THIS TRUNK MAT'S A DUPLICATE OF THE ORIGINAL THAT CAME IN THE CHEVELLE THAT JUST LAYS FLAT ON THE FLOOR LIKE THIS. NOW, OVER THE YEARS, MY PARTNER HAS ACCUSED ME OF NOT KNOWING JACK.
