(NARRATOR)>> TODAY ON DETROIT
MUSCLE WE'RE GONNA LEND A HAND ON A BIG DEAL BUILD THAT'S
GOING TO THE WORLD'S BIGGEST AUTOMOTIVE SHOW, AS WELL AS
RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITY. PLUS WE GOT OUR SHOP
REDONE, AND WE'LL SHOW YOU EXACTLY HOW WE DID IT. DETROIT MUSCLE STARTS NOW.
(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME TO DETROIT MUSCLE. WE'RE GONNA BE WORKING ON A VERY COOL PROJECT TODAY. WE'VE BEEN ASKED TO HELP OUT ON A UNIQUE BUILD THAT WHEN
IT'S FINISHED IS GOING TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOME REALLY GREAT CAUSES.
(TOMMY)>> THAT IS THIS BRIGHT AND SHINY '67 CAMARO. NOW THIS THING IS STRAIGHT OUT OF THE PAINT BOOTH AND IT'S PLENTY SHINY, BUT THE MECHANICS OF THIS OLD THING, WELL THEY'RE NOT UP TO SNUFF, BUT THAT'S WHERE WE COME IN AT.
(MARC)>> WD 40 COMPANY IS SPEARHEADING THIS BUILD AND THE REASON WHY IT'S SO SPECIAL IS BECAUSE IT'S BUILT TO
CELEBRATE NOT ONLY 50 YEARS OF SEMA, BUT ALSO 50 YEARS OF THE CHEVY CAMARO.
(TOMMY)>> THE OFFICIAL SEMA 50TH ANNIVERSARY CAR, THIS CAMARO, WAS DESIGNED BY BUILDER NEIL TJIN AND BUILT BY BOTH TJIN AND INSTRUCTORS FROM UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE. PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF THE CAMARO WILL GO TO CHILD HEALTH, A FOUNDATION WHICH ADVOCATES FOR AND PROVIDES SERVICES TO ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN.
(DON)>> THE WD 40 COMPANY IS A VALUES DRIVEN ORGANIZATION, AND OUR CORE VALUE IS TO CREATE POSITIVE AND LASTING MEMORIES, AND WE BELIEVE THAT THIS CAR BUILD, AND WHICH IT WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF WITH THE PROCEEDS GOING TO A GREAT WORTHY ORGANIZATION SUCH AS SEMA CARES, LIVES THAT VALUE, AND THE WD 40 COMPANY HAS RAISED OVER $700,000 DOLLARS
FOR SEMA CARES, AND WE'RE PROUD TO CONTINUE THAT LEGACY
WITH THE BUILD OF THIS CAMARO.
(TOMMY)>> NOW AT FIRST GLANCE YOU'D THINK THIS CAR WAS A PRETTY SERIOUS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT, BUT IT'S KIND OF GOT AN IDENTITY CRISIS. THIS OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY LAYING OFF IN HERE IS REAL
DIRTY, IT'S GOT A FEW SHINY PIECES ON IT, BUT THAT'S
REALLY ALL IT HAS GOING FOR IT. IT'S BEEN RUNG THROUGH THE RINGER, BUT WE'VE GOT THE FIX FOR IT.
(MARC)>> PACE PERFORMANCE HAD EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED IN THE FORM OF THIS SMALL BLOCK CHEVY ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COMBO. IT COMES WITH EVERYTHING YOU SEE HERE, AIR CLEANER TO OIL PAN, AND BALANCER TO TAIL SHAFT. HECK IT EVEN COMES WITH THE STARTER. NOW PACE OFFERS A BUNCH OF THESE DIFFERENT COMBINATIONS, ALMOST 300 IN THE SMALL BLOCK CHEVY CATEGORY ALONE, BUT NOT ONLY DO THEY OFFER THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION COMBOS BUT THEY HAVE A BUNCH OF CRATE ENGINES AS WELL. SMALL BLOCK CHEVYS, BIG BLOCK CHEVYS, LS', AND THEY EVEN OFFER LS SWAP COMPONENTS. NOW BEFORE WE CAN GET THIS THING INSTALLED WE NEED TO GET THE OLD ONE OUT OF THE WAY.
(TOMMY)>> NOW WE'RE NOT JUST INSTALLING AN ENGINE AND TRANS. WE'VE GOT A WHOLE MESS OF UPGRADES THAT WE'RE PLANNING
TO THROW AT THIS THING. NOW WE'RE GONNA DO WHEELS, TIRES, SUSPENSION, AND BRAKES, AND HECK, WE MAY NOT EVEN STOP THERE, BUT TO HELP US DO ALL THIS WORK WE GOT OURSELVES SOME CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL HELP.
(MARC)>> WHO ELSE WOULD WE TURN TO BUT UTI? UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE IS A LEADING TRAINER OF STUDENTS PURSUING CAREERS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY. WITH A TEAM OF SPECIALIST WHO IDENTIFY JOB OPPORTUNITIES FOR GRADUATES, UTI IS A GREAT FIRST STEP TOWARD WORKING HANDS ON IN THE FIELD OF YOUR CHOICE.
(TOMMY)>> MILLER LE AND RYAN DAVIS ARE INSTRUCTORS AT UTI, AND THEY OFFERED A HELPING HAND TO GET THIS CAMARO READY FOR THE AUCTION BLOCK.
(RYAN)>> YOU KNOW I STARTED BUILDING MODELS, YOU KNOW, AROUND 13 YEARS OLD.
THE LITTLE PLASTIC MODELS, AND EVER SINCE THEN I THINK I'VE BEEN IN LOVE WITH CARS.
(MILLER)>> VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT CARS. I STARTED BACK IN THE INDUSTRY IN LATE '96.
(TOMMY)>> THE FIRST THING WE'VE GOTTA DO IS GET SOME OF THAT STOCK DRIVELINE OUT OF THE WAY, AND A LITTLE WD 40 SPECIALIST RUST RELEASE PENETRANT SPRAY WILL MAKE IT
GO AS SMOOTH AS SILK.
(MARC)>> THE TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER HAS TO BE UNBOLTED AS WELL, AND SOME MORE WD 40 RUST RELEASE SPRAY WILL HELP WITH THAT. THEN THE HOOD CAN BE SET ASIDE SO WE DON'T SCRATCH THAT NICE, NEW PAINT.
(TOMMY)>> TIME TO BUST OUT THE CHERRY PICKER.
(MILLER)>> THERE YOU GO.
(TOMMY)>> WITH THE MOTOR MOUNTS UNCORKED, WE'RE READY TO LIFT THAT BAD BOY OUT OF THERE.
(DON)>> THE WD 40 COMPANY IS MORE THAN JUST THE BLUE AND YELLOW WD 40 MULTI USE PRODUCT. ABOUT FOUR YEARS AGO WE LAUNCHED THE WD 40 SPECIALIST PRODUCT LINE. WITHIN THAT WE HAVE MANY SPECIALIZED PRODUCTS FOR AUTO
PROS AND ENTHUSIASTS ALIKE TO DO THE SPECIALIZED TASKS THAT THEY NEED EXCELLENT PERFORMING PRODUCTS FOR.
(MARC)>> GOING BY THE LOOKS OF THIS ENGINE BAY, THE CLEANER AND DEGREASER IS A GOOD PLACE TO START IN GETTING THIS THING CLEANED UP AND READY FOR THAT NEW ENGINE.
(TOMMY)>> NOW WHILE THOSE BOYS ARE BUSY ARE CLEANING UNDER THE HOOD, ME AND MARC'S GONNA CLEAN UP A FEW OF THESE PARTS. NOW AFTER A TRIP TO THE BLASTER AND A QUICK SPRAY OF SOME PAINT, THESE THINGS BE AS GOOD AS NEW.
(MARC)>> YEAH, NAH, WE'LL TAKE A LOOK AT IT.
(TOMMY)>> HEY MARC, HERE'S A FEW MORE PIECES I NEED YOU TO GET CLEANED UP. I'VE GOTTA GIVE THIS ONE A BATH THOUGH FIRST.
(MARC)>> ALL RIGHT MAN, COOL!
(TOMMY)>> IT'S TIME TO SAY SO ALONG TO THAT TIRED, OLD SMALL
BLOCK AND HELLO TO OUR UPGRADE.
IT'S ALL ABOUT BEING CAREFUL HERE AND NOT SCRATCHING THAT FRESHLY PAINTED ENGINE BAY OR OUR NEW ENGINE.
[ hammer tapping ]
(MILLER)>> HEY!
(TOMMY)>> THEN WE CAN START BOLTING ON ALL THE GOODIES THAT'S GONNA MAKE THIS BIRD SING.
(MARC)>> WELL HERE'S THE RADIATOR THAT WE PULLED OUT OF THE '67 CAMARO, AND IT HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS. IT'S ALL BEAT UP AND IT LOOKS LIKE AN ORIGINAL REPLACEMENT.
NOT ONLY THAT, IT'S GOT SOME GREEN SPOTS HERE AND THERE, WHICH IS A GOOD SIGN THAT THIS THING'S STARTING TO LEAK. SO IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
SO WE GOT A FROSTBITE RADIATOR FROM HOLLEY PERFORMANCE. NOW THIS IS A THREE ROW ALUMINUM PIECE, AND NOT ONLY DOES IT LOOK A LOT BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL UNIT, BUT IT'S GONNA COOL A LOT BETTER, AND IT'S GOT SOME BRACKETS HERE THAT ARE GONNA ALLOW US TO MOUNT IT IN THE ORIGINAL LOCATION.
WE'RE GONNA CONNECT THAT TO OUR NEW ENGINE WITH SOME STOCK REPLACEMENT HOSES THAT WE GOT FROM ROCK AUTO DOT COM. THE RADIATOR FLUID WE DECIDED TO USE IS THIS EVANS HIGH PERFORMANCE WATERLESS ENGINE COOLANT.
NOW WHAT MAKES THIS STUFF UNIQUE IS THAT SINCE THERE'S NO WATER IN IT, THE PRESSURE'S GONNA STAY LOWER BECAUSE THE
BOILING POINT IS OVER 150 DEGREES HIGHER THAN TRADITIONAL ANTIFREEZE COOLANT. NOW WHEN YOU INSTALL THIS STUFF YOU'VE GOT TO MAKE SURE ALL THE WATER'S OUT OF THE SYSTEM, BUT SINCE WE'VE GOT A NEW ENGINE, RADIATOR, AND HOSES, WE'RE GONNA JUST POUR IT RIGHT IN.
(NARRATOR)>> STILL AHEAD, THAT WD 40 CAMARO IS GONNA NEED
SOME SUSPENSION UPGRADES AND THE GUYS ARE ON THE CASE. PLUS WE'LL SHOW YOU WHAT IT TAKES TO INSTALL A NEW SHOP
FLOOR THAT'LL BE TOUGHER THAN EVER.
(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK. NOW WE'RE WORKING ON THIS '67 CAMARO, TEAMING UP WITH OUR FRIENDS AT WD 40 COMPANY FOR SEMA CARES. NOW WE HAD THE ENGINE BAY ALL BUTTONED UP AND IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR. NOW THE WHEELS AND TIRES, WELL THEY'RE SETUP FOR DRAG RACING, AND BESIDES THEY LOOK LIKE THEY'VE BEEN RATTLE CANNED A TIME OR TWO. SO WE'RE GONNA ADDRESS THAT A LITTLE BIT LATER. FOR NOW WE'RE GONNA TAKE A LOOK AT THE
SUSPENSION AND BRAKES. NOW THESE DRUM BRAKES, WELL THEY WERE FINE BY 1967 STANDARDS BUT BY TODAY'S STANDARDS THEY'VE GOT TO GO. CONTROL ARMS ARE PROBABLY FINE BUT THE BUSHINGS ARE ALL WORN OUT AND THE SWAY BAR, WELL IT'S OKAY TOO BUT THE BUSHINGS ARE SHOT AS WELL. SO WE'RE GONNA ADDRESS ALL THAT. THE SPRINGS AND SHOCKS, WELL THEY'RE PROBABLY SHOT BUT WE'VE GOT THE SOLUTION FOR ALL OF THIS.
(TOMMY)>> NOW TO HELP CARVE OUT THE CORNERS WITH OUR '67 CAMARO PROJECT WE'RE GONNA BE SWAPPING IN A SET OF QA ONE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS. NOW THESE THINGS HAVE BEEN ENGINEERED TO INCREASE YOUR CAMBER AND CASTOR, AND THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE DRIVABILITY. NOW WE'RE ALSO GONNA BE SWAPPING IN A KIT THAT WE GOT FROM EIBACH. IT'S GOT BIG MASSIVE FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS, SHOCKS FOR ALL THE WAY AROUND, AND A NEW SET OF COIL SPRINGS FOR THE FRONT. NOW I'M GONNA GET OVER HERE AND TRY TO GET MARC OUT OF LOW GEAR IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
(MARC)>> WE'LL PULL THIS DRUM OFF AND HIT THE OLD BOLTS WITH SOME WD 40 RUST PENETRANT, AND START GETTING THE SUSPENSION TAKEN APART.
THAT WAS EASY! SOMETIMES THOSE DRUMS DON'T COME OFF SO EASILY THOUGH. [ hammer tapping ]
(MARC)>> YOU KNOW A BIGGER HAMMER'S NOT ALWAYS THE SOLUTION TOM.
(TOMMY)>> MEANWHILE MILLER AND RYAN FROM UTI ARE TACKLING THAT NO GEAR OIL HAVING REAR.
(RYAN)>> WELL THAT'S GOOD, THERE WASN'T ANY IN IT. THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BAD DEAL.
(MILLER)>> YEAH I REALLY APPRECIATE, YOU KNOW, THE INVITE DOWN, AND WORKING WITH MARC AND TOMMY IS THE BEST. YOU KNOW, THEY'RE GREAT GUYS, AND GREAT COLLABORATION, AND THE ASSEMBLY IS GOING RELATIVELY SMOOTH, YOU KNOW, AND I THINK WE'RE GONNA HAVE A GREAT OUTCOME.
(TOMMY)>> WITH THE DIFF CLEANED UP AND THE CLIPS OUT, THE AXLES CAN BE REMOVED. [ impact wrench spinning ]
(TOMMY)>> THAT'S GONNA ALLOW THESE REAR BRAKES TO BE SWAPPED OUT. FOUR BOLTS HOLD THE ASSEMBLY ON, THEN SHE'S FREE.
(MARC)>> UP FRONT WE'RE GETTING THE STOCK CONTROL ARMS REMOVED AS WELL AS STRIPPING THE PIECES WE NEED TO KEEP FOR
OUR BRAKE UPGRADE, LIKE THIS STEERING ARM AND SPINDLE.
(TOMMY)>> OUR OLD CAR ORIGINALLY CAME WITH DRUM
BRAKES ALL THE WAY AROUND, AND THAT'S JUST NOT GONNA CUT IT FOR THE STYLE CAR WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER. SO WE WENT TO BAER BRAKES FOR A COMPLETE SETUP.
THIS IS THEIR PRO PLUS DISC KIT WITH THE MASSIVE 14 INCH ROTORS. THE KIT INCLUDES SIX PISTON CALIPERS, YOUR HOSES, BRACKETS, HUBS, MASTER CYLINDER, HECK EVERYTHING
YOU NEED TO INSTALL IT. ANOTHER NICE THING ABOUT A PROFESSIONAL KIT LIKE THIS, THERE'S NO HACKING ON YOUR RIDE. YOU JUST SIMPLY BOLT IT RIGHT UP.
(MILLER)>> YOU KNOW THERE'S FOLKS OUT THERE THAT ARE TRYING TO LEARN THE TRADE, AND MOST PEOPLE THINK THAT, YOU KNOW, PUTTING A CAR TOGETHER IS STEPS ONE, TWO, AND THREE, AND IT'S A LOT MORE THAN THAT. THERE'S A LOT MORE WORK. YOU'LL RUN INTO HURDLES, YOU'LL RUN INTO OBSTACLES, AND YOU'VE GOT TO KINDA TAKE YOURSELF BACK TO A LEVEL WHERE YOU KNOW, HOW DOES THIS FUNCTION, HOW DOES THIS WORK,
AND WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO TO GET FROM POINT "A" TO POINT "B".
(TOMMY)>> THE GUYS JUST ABOUT HAVE THE REAR READY TO ACCEPT THOSE NEW BIG BRAKES. THE LINES NEED TO BE PREPPED AND TIDIED UP. THEN THE BACKING PLATE CAN BE INSTALLED. IT USES FACTORY BOLT HOLES, SO NO SWEAT THERE. THEN THE AXLES CAN GO BACK INTO PLACE.
THE CCLIPS ARE READY TO BE PUT BACK INTO THE DIFF, AND THE COVER CAN BE REATTACHED ONCE THAT'S DONE.
(MARC)>> THE ROTORS SIMPLY SLIP ONTO THE STOCK AXLES. THEN THOSE TJIN EDITION CALIPERS CAN BE BOLTED INTO
PLACE WITH THE PADS PREINSTALLED.
DON'T FORGET YOUR EBRAKE CABLE.
(DON)>> THIS BUILD PROVIDES A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO
SHOWCASE THE MANY PRODUCTS OF THE WD 40 BRAND THAT AUTO PRO'S AND ENTHUSIASTS ALIKE CAN USE, WHETHER IT'S IN TOTAL RESTORATION PROJECTS OR SIMPLE EVERYDAY ROUTINE MAINTENANCE.
(NARRATOR)>> AFTER THE BREAK WE WRAP UP WORK ON THE WD 40 CAMARO. THEN IT'S TIME TO INSTALL THAT NEW FLOOR.
(MARC)>> HEY WELCOME BACK FOLKS. WE'RE WELL UNDER WAY WITH OUR WD 40 SEMA CARES '67 CAMARO PROJECT. AFTER THE CAR MADE A TRIP TO UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE FOR PAINT AND BODY WORK IT LANDED HERE AND OUR TASK IS TO UPGRADE THE DRIVETRAIN AND SUSPENSION. WE'VE GOT THE NEW SMALL BLOCK AND TRANS PLUGGED IN, AS WELL AS OUR REAR BUTTONED UP THANKS TO A HELPING HAND FROM MILLER AND RYAN FROM UTI. THIS PROJECT IS IMPORTANT FOR SEVERAL REASON, BUT MOST IMPORTANT IS THAT IT WILL BE AUCTIONED OFF WITH THE PROCEEDS GOING TO SEMA CARES FOR THE ORGANIZATION CHILD HELP AS WELL AS THE SEMA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND. WE'VE GOT SOME NEW PARTS TO IMPROVE THE FRONT END OF THIS OLD CHEVY, SO LET'S GET STARTED. [ metal clanging ]
(MARC)>> NOW I WENT AHEAD AND FISHED THIS NEW FRONT SWAY BAR INTO PLACE BECAUSE IF I DIDN'T DO THAT NOW WHEN WE GET THE CONTROL ARMS ON IT'D BE REALLY HARD TO GET IN, PRACTICALLY IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT REMOVING
THE CONTROL ARM OR THE ENGINE. WE DON'T WANT TO DO THAT. SO I'M JUST GONNA LET THAT SIT THERE, GO GRAB THE CONTROL ARMS.
(TOMMY)>> WE'LL DEAL WITH THE LOWERS FIRST, AND THESE SLIP INTO THE FACTORY MOUNTING LOCATIONS. WE'RE GONNA USE THIS WD 40 LUBRICANT WITH AN EZ REACH NOZZLE TO SLICK UP THESE URETHANE BUSHINGS. THEN WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE UPPERS. TWO BOLTS HOLD THESE IN PLACE. IF YOU GO WITH COIL OVERS THERE'S A BRACKET THAT BOLTS HERE, BUT WE'RE RUNNING STOCK STYLE COIL SPRINGS, SO THEY'LL SIT ON THIS SPRING PERCH.
A SCREW JACK WILL HELP US LOAD UP THIS SUSPENSION SO THAT WE CAN REINSTALL THE SPINDLE.
THEN WE CAN MOVE ON TO OUR NEW BRAKE BRACKETS. THE STOCK STEERING ARM MOUNTS ON THE BACK OF IT.
[ impact wrench spinning ]
(TOMMY)>> THEN THIS CALIPER BRACKET MOUNTS FACING THE REAR.
(MARC)>> OUR NEW HUB ASSEMBLY COMES WITH THE BEARINGS ALREADY PACKED SO WE CAN SLIP IT INTO PLACE AND SET THE
BEARING PRETENSION.
ONCE WE GET THE COTTER PIN INSTALLED WE'LL KNOCK THE DUST CAP ON AND MOVE ALONG.
THE STEERING CAN NOW BE REATTACHED TO THE STOCK ARM AND WE CAN INSTALL OUR BIG OLE ROTORS. WE USE A LUG NUT TO HOLD THEM IN PLACE WHILE THE CALIPERS ARE BOLTED DOWN.
DON'T FORGET TO GREASE YOUR NEW BALL JOINTS.
NOW TO COMPLETE THE TRANSFORMATION ON OUR CAMARO FROM DRAG CAR TO SHOW CAR WE HAD TO GO WITH A NEW SET OF WHEELS AND TIRES. SO WE GOT THESE NEW PIVOTS FROM BUDNIK. WE DECIDED TO GO WITH A TITANIUM CERAMIC FINISH, AND THESE ARE 18'S, AND THEY'RE DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR PRO TOURING CARS LIKE OURS, AND WE WRAPPED THEM IN A SET OF FALKEN RUBBER.
(TOMMY)>> WE GAVE BUDNIK THE DIMENSIONS OF OUR NEW BRAKES. SO WE KNEW THERE WOULDN'T BE ANY FITMENT ISSUES THERE. THEY COME WITH THESE LOCKING LUG NUTS TO KEEP THEM CINCHED DOWN AND SAFE. ONCE WE GET HER LOWERED BACK ON THE GROUND, SHE'S READY FOR
THE HOOD TO BE REINSTALLED. WE'LL JUST BOLT IT UP WHERE IT WAS AND LATCH IT DOWN. WELL THERE YOU GO. THAT PRETTY MUCH DOES IT FOR WHAT WE WERE PLANNING TO DO TO THE WD 40 COMPANY '67 CAMARO SEMA BUILD. NOW WE DIDN'T START THIS PROJECT AND WE'RE NOT FINISHING IT EITHER, BUT WE'RE PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT BEING ABLE TO LEND A HELPING HAND FOR A REALLY GOOD CAUSE.
(MARC)>> AND A SPECIAL THANKS TO UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL
INSTITUTE FOR SENDING OVER A COUPLE OF THEIR FINEST INSTRUCTORS. MILLER AND RYAN WERE A HUGE HELP, AND IN THE TIME PERIOD THAT WE HAD THIS THING WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THEM, BUT THERE'S STILL SOME STUFF LEFT TO DO TO THIS THING. SO WE NEED TO GET IT OUT TO THE OTHER TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS.
(NARRATOR)>> STICK AROUND TO LEARN ABOUT THE LATEST TECH THAT'LL MAKE YOUR SHOP FLOOR BULLETPROOF.
(MARC)>> HEY GUYS, WELCOME BACK. NOW YOU MAY NOTICE THAT THE SHOP'S GOT A FRESHER LOOK TO IT. THAT MIGHT BE PARTLY BECAUSE WE REDECORATED A LITTLE BIT,
AND CLEANED UP, BUT THE MAIN THING THAT WE DID WHILE ALL THAT STUFF WAS OUT WAS WE GAVE OUR FLOOR THE
ATTENTION THAT IT NEEDED. AFTER OVER 10 YEARS OF CAR BUILDING IN OUR SHOP, THE FLOOR HAS BECOME A LITTLE BIT UNSIGHTLY. YOU FOLKS KNOW THAT IF YOU'RE RUNNING A PROFESSIONAL SHOP, A NICE FLOOR WILL GIVE CUSTOMERS A GOOD FIRST IMPRESSION. AS FOR US, WELL WE DON'T WANT YOU GUYS AT HOME TO THINK POORLY OF US NOW DO WE? SO WE WENT TO QUESTMARK IN SEARCH OF A VISUAL UPGRADE.
(JOSHUA)>> WHEN WE COME IN HERE WE BASICALLY USE OUR BIG GRINDERS TO ACTUALLY GRIND OFF THE ORIGINAL EXISTING FLOOR, AND THEN WE GET IT NICE AND SMOOTH SO THAT THERE'S NO DESPONDING ISSUES BASICALLY.
(TOMMY)>> NOW MOST OF THE TIME WHEN SOMEONE IS IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW FLOOR THEY WANT THE SHINIEST FINISH YOU CAN GET, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT THE RESULTS ARE TYPICALLY A HIGH GLOSS LOOK. THERE ARE A LOT OF DIFFERENT COLOR COMBINATIONS AVAILABLE FOR BOTH THE URETHANE ITSELF AND THE COLOR CHIPS.
(MARC)>> BUT OUR FLOOR REQUIRED SOMETHING SPECIAL, AND THE FOLKS AT QUESTMARK CAME THROUGH FOR US. WE ACTUALLY NEED A LOW GLOSS MAT FINISH BECAUSE A HIGH GLOSS FINISH WOULD FREAK OUT OUR CAMERAS.
(JOSHUA)>> BASICALLY WE UPGRADED THE TOP COAT TO URETHANE. THAT'S GONNA GIVE YOU THE STAIN PROTECTION THAT YOU NEED, AS WELL AS U/V DEGRADATION PROTECTION, AND IT'S ALSO GONNA HAVE THE LONGEVITY AS WELL AS HAVE THE TOUGHNESS OR THE DURABILITY THAT YOU'RE GONNA NEED FOR, YOU KNOW, WRENCHES DROPPING ON THE FLOOR, OR YOU
KNOW, SCREW DRIVERS. SAY YOU DROP A BOLT, IT'S NOT GONNA ACTUALLY CHIP THE CONCRETE OUT.
(TOMMY)>> THE ACTUAL INSULATION OF THE FLOORING AND THE TOP COAT INVOLVES USING SQUEEGEES AND PAINT ROLLERS TO LAY IT OUT UNIFORMLY ACROSS THE SURFACE.
SOMETHING ELSE SPECIAL ABOUT THE TOP COAT ON OUR FLOOR, IT'S ACTUALLY WATER BASED.
(JOSHUA)>> TYPICALLY MOST OF THE PRIOR TECHNOLOGIES ARE URETHANE BASED WITH HIGH VOC'S. USING A WATER BASED URETHANE ALLOWED US TO, FOR YOU GUYS TO
CONTINUE WORKING IN THIS FACILITY AND NOT RUN EVERYONE OUT, BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT STILL GIVES US THAT DURABILITY AND RUGGEDNESS OF JUST A TYPICAL URETHANE FLOOR.
(MARC)>> WE WENT WITH A LIGHT GRAY BASE AS WELL AS MONOCHROME BROADCAST CHIPS TO BREAK UP THE LOOK A LITTLE BIT.
THANKS TO THE FOLKS AT QUESTMARK WE'RE BACK TO LOOKING LIKE A RESPECTABLE OPERATION. NOW WE'VE JUST GOT TO ACT LIKE IT.
(TOMMY)>> NOT GONNA HAPPEN!
(MARC)>> HEAT FROM HEADER TUBES AND EXHAUST PIPES THAT ARE ROUTED NEAR HEAT SENSITIVE PARTS CAN DAMAGE OR EVEN CAUSE FAILURE TO THOSE COMPONENTS. TO KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING DEI HAS ITS ONYX SERIES HEAT SHIELD. THIS FLEXIBLE DUAL LAYER HEAT SHIELD IS MADE TO WITHSTAND TEMPERATURES UP TO 1,350 DEGREES AND IS EASY TO INSTALL WITH THE PROVIDED STAINLESS STEEL CLAMPS. BECAUSE OF ITS FLEXIBILITY AND ADJUSTABILITY, THIS HEAT SHIELD WILL FIT ON JUST ABOUT ANY APPLICATION AND MOST PIPE DIAMETERS.
(TOMMY)>> A SET OF WHEELS CAN MAKE OR BRAKE THE LOOK OF YOUR RIDE, AND WHENEVER IT COMES TO PICKING AN ICONIC WHEEL THERE'S NOTHING QUITE LIKE A SET OF SNOWFLAKES. THESE CAST ALUMINUM VERSIONS FROM YEAR ONE COMBINE THE
CLASSIC SNOWFLAKE DESIGN WITH THE LARGER 17 INCH DIAMETER, WITH A MORE MODERN TWIST. THEY'RE AVAILABLE IN A VARIETY OF WIDTHS AND SIZES, AND THEY ALSO COME IN GOLD, SILVER, AND BLACK FINISHES, AND FOR THOSE OF YOU OUT THERE THAT ARE LOOKING FOR THEM IN 15, THEY HAVE THOSE AS WELL BUT WE'RE ALL OUT OF TIME FOR RIGHT NOW GUYS. SO UNTIL NEXT TIME, Y'ALL KNOW THE SAYING, KEEP IT BETWEEN THE DITCHES.
