(ANNOUNCER)>> TODAY ON
DETROIT MUSCLE, OUR OLD SCHOOL '49 FORD GETS
MORE CUSTOM MODS. WE'LL SHOW YOU HOW TO BULL
NOSE AND PEAK THE HOOD AND HOW TO SHAVE AND SECTION A
CUSTOM BUMPER THE WAY THEY DID BACK IN THE DAY.
(TOMMY)>> WE'VE BEEN CONCENTRATING HOT AND HEAVY ON PROJECT ULTRAVIOLET, OUR '70 CHALLENGER HEMI CAR. BUT WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO SLIDE IT TO THE BACK BURNER FOR JUST A BIT AND LET IT SIMMER. SHIFT GEARS TO OUR OTHER RIDE.
(JOE)>> THAT'S OUR '49 FORD RETRO HOT ROD WE CALL BANANA SPLIT. THE WHOLE IDEA BEHIND CUSTOM CAR PROJECTS LIKE THIS IS TO CHANGE THE LOOKS TO GIVE THEM
UNIQUE PERSONALITIES.
1950'S ERA CUSTOMS LIKE THIS HUDSON LEAD SLED WE BUILT A FEW YEARS AGO ARE STILL THE RAGE WITH CUSTOMIZERS BENT ON CREATING ROLLING ART. ALL THAT CHOPPING, NOSING, DECKING, FRENCHING, AND LOWERING PAYOFF WHEN YOU'RE VYING FOR COOL AND DIFFERENT AT THE LOCAL ROOT BEER STAND OR DRIVE IN. AND OUR FORD IS NO EXCEPTION. SO FAR WE'VE HUNG KILLER SUICIDE DOORS WITH ELECTRIC POPPERS, GRAFTED IN '56 OLDS HEADLIGHTS, PUNCHED THE HOOD, FRENCHED THE LICENSE PLATE,
RECESSED THE ANTENNA, AND EVEN ADDED BLUE DOTS. TODAY IT'S OUR NEXT CUSTOM HOOD TREATMENT KNOWN AS PEAKING.
(TOMMY)>> ORIGINALLY THIS OLD FORD HAD A PIECE OF TRIM THAT RUN ALL THE WAY DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE HOOD. NOW WE'RE WANTING TO SHAVE THAT THING OFF, FILL THIS IN, AND TAKE QUARTER INCH PIECE OF SOLID STOCK AND WELD IT ALL THE WAY DOWN THE MIDDLE FROM THE FRONT TO THE BACK.
NOW ONCE THIS THING'S BODY WORKED, PAINTED, MAN IT'S GONNA LOOK SWEET!
(JOE)>> THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS, MAKE SOME OF THAT PRIMER GO AWAY SO TOMMY CAN DO HIS TACKING. HOW ABOUT THAT?
(TOMMY)>> WELL IF YOU DON'T MIND DOING THAT, I'LL CUT A FEW STRIPS.
(JOE)>> DEAL! OF COURSE I'M REMOVING THIS PRIMER SO THAT OUR WELDS WILL PROPERLY FUSE TO THE METAL ON THE HOOD. THAT SEALER/ PRIMER IS NOT A WELD THROUGH VARIETY AFTER ALL.
(TOMMY)>> I GOT SOME STRIPS CUT THAT I'M GONNA USE AS MY FILLER. NOW I WENT AHEAD AND RADIUSED ONE END OF THIS THING SO THAT IT WOULD FIT NICE AND PRETTY
HERE AT THE BACK. I'VE JUST GOT TO LAY THIS THING INTO POSITION AND THEN BURN IT IN. YOU'LL WANT TO POSITION THE STRIP, THEN MAKE A TACK.
WORK YOUR WAY DOWN TACKING BOTH SIDES EVENLY SO THE WELDS DON'T PULL THE STRIP OVER. THEN WE'LL PUT ON OUR SECOND ONE. IT'S THE SAME STORY AS THE FIRST ONE. AND ONCE WE GET TO THE END, A NICE LITTLE RADIUS TO MATCH THE CHANNEL ON THE HOOD IS IN ORDER. AFTER IT'S ROUGH CUT OUT, A LITTLE GRINDING AND FITTING WILL MAKE IT JUST THE RIGHT SHAPE.
NOW WE CAN BURN THE WHOLE THING IN, MOVING AROUND FREQUENTLY SO WE DON'T WARP UP THE HOOD BY GENERATING TOO MUCH HEAT IN ONE PLACE. [ welder crackling ] FINALLY A GRINDER WITH A ROCK WHEEL IS THE WEAPON OF CHOICE TO DRESS UP THE WELDS FOR THE NEXT STEP. WITH THE CENTER OF THE HOOD ALL GROUND DOWN, WE'RE READY TO START DOING THE PEAKING. AND TO DO THAT WE'RE GONNA USE A PIECE OF QUARTER
INCH SOLID STOCK THAT WE PICKED UP FROM A HARDWARE STORE. NOW YOU CAN GET THIS STUFF AT A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PLACES, YOU JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE TO SELECT THE RIGHT PIECE THAT DOESN'T HAVE LIKE A KINK OR A BEND IN IT CAUSE YOU USING THIS AS A BODY LINE. AND IF YOU GET A BENT PIECE, WELL YOU'RE GONNA
HAVE TO TRY TO STRAIGHTEN IT OR LIVE WITH A BENT BODY LINE. NOW IF YOU SLIDE THE ROD BACK JUST A BIT INSTEAD OF
BRINGING ALL THE WAY TO THE EDGE OF THE HOOD, THIS'LL ALLOW YOU TO KINDA GRIND IT DOWN A BIT AFTER THE WELD IS DONE TO HAVE A NICE FLOWING TAPER. THERE WE GO. NOW JUST HAVING THAT ONE TACK THERE ON THE END WILL ALLOW YOU TO BE ABLE TO SLIDE AND ADJUST THIS ROD
HOWEVER YOU NEED IT TO BE. HAVE IT PERFECTLY LINED UP AT YOUR PEAK.
(JOE)>> ONCE WE GET TO THE FRONT OF THE HOOD WHERE IT CURVES DOWN, IT'S IMPORTANT TO SPACE THE TACKS CLOSER TOGETHER. KEEP THE ROD DOWN FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE.
THEN JUST CUT OFF THE EXTRA ROD. NOW THE REST OF IT CAN BE WELDED. JUST LIKE ON THE STRIPS, YOU WANT NOT TO SPEND VERY MUCH TIME ON ONE SPOT SO YOU DON'T WARP THE HOOD.
(TOMMY)>> ALRIGHT GUYS, NOW WE'VE GOT TO DO A TINY BIT OF GRINDING. NAH, IT'S MORE THAN A TINY BIT.
WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS USE AN OLD GRINDING WHEEL. THE REASON BEING IT'S WORE KINDA ROUND. IF YOU USE THE NEW ONE, IT'S GONNA BE SQUARES. NOW YOU CAN DO EITHER ONE. IF YOU'RE TRYING TO CUT A SQUARE ONE, USE THE NEW ONE. IF YOU WANT A ROUNDED ONE, USE A ROUNDED ONE. SO GUESS WHAT WE'RE GOING WITH, THE ROUNDED ONE. THIS IS THAT SPOT I WAS TELLING YOU GUYS ABOUT EARLIER. THIS IS HOW WE'RE GONNA ROUND IT DOWN. GRIND HERE, GRIND THERE, THEN KINDA TAKE OFF THE TOP SIDE, BLEND IT ALL BACK AND FORTH, IT'S GONNA BE AWESOME. ONCE THE GENERAL SHAPE IS ROUGHED IN, I'LL SWITCH DOWN TO A SMALLER GRINDER WITH A HIGHER GRIT DISC FOR SOME OF THAT ARTISTIC SCULPTING. THEN YOU GO AFTER THE REST OF THE WELDS AND GRIND THEM DOWN TO GET READY FOR SOME BODY WORK. WHAT YOU'RE TRYING TO DO HERE IS JUST PUT THE GRINDER RIGHT ON THE EDGE OF THE WELD. NOW WITH A GRINDING ROCK ROUGHING IT ALL IN, WE'RE GONNA COME BACK AND USE THIS BLENDING DISC TO SMOOTH IT ALL OUT. WELL THAT PRETTY MUCH DOES IT FOR THE METAL
WORK ON THE HOOD. IT STILL NEEDS A LITTLE BIT OF BODY WORK BUT WE'LL HAVE TO DO THAT A LITTLE LATER DOWN THE ROAD. AND BESIDES, WE STILL HAVE PLENTY TO DO.
(ANNOUNCER)>> STILL AHEAD WE'RE GONNA SWAP IN A MASSIVE NEW BUMPER TO ADD SOME BLING TO OUR BANANA. AND WE'LL ALSO TAKE A LOOK AT THE FIRST FACTORY SUPERCHARGED COBRA.
(TOMMY)>> CUSTOM BUMPERS CAN MAKE A DRAMATIC CHANGE IN A VEHICLE'S APPEARANCE, AND OVER THE YEARS YOU'VE SEE US SPEND A LOT OF EFFORT FABRICATING DIFFERENT TYPES OF CUSTOM BUMPERS FOR PROJECTS, LIKE OUR HUDSON, BLUE COLLAR BUICK, AND OUR BLOWN DART, "BUSINESS TIME". WELL WE'RE WANTING DOLL UP THE FRONT END OF PROJECT BANANA SPLIT JUST A LITTLE BIT, AND TO DO THAT WE'RE GONNA SWAP OUT THE FRONT BUMPER. THIS ONE'S FROM AN OLD CHRYSLER, BUT FIRST WE'VE GOT TO GET THE CHROME OFF.
SHOOT, IT'S GONNA BE SWEETING THAN CAKE FROSTING.
(JOE)>> AND FOR THAT WE SENT IT TO ADVANCE PLATING WHERE THEY USE SULFURIC ACID AND REVERSE CURRENT TO STRIP THE BUMPER DOWN TO BARE METAL SO WE CAN
SECTION AND REWELD IT.
(TOMMY)>> NOTHING GIVES YOUR BUILD THE WOW FACTOR LIKE HIGH END CHROME.
BUT IT'S NOT A CHEAP PROCESS. A GREAT PLATER WILL HELP YOU PLAN YOUR BUMPER PROJECT TO SAVE MONEY.
(JOE)>> AND YOU'RE PROBABLY INCLINED TO GRIND DOWN AND FINISH ANY MODIFICATIONS THAT YOU'VE DONE TO YOUR PIECE.
BUT IF IT'S GONNA BE PLATED, YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO DO THAT.
(JOSH)>> GRINDING JUST CREATES MOVE VALLEYS AND RUTS IN THE BUMPER, WHICH END UP CREATING MORE WORK
FOR THE PLATER AND CAN COST THE CUSTOMER MORE MONEY TO REPAIR.
(TOMMY)>> A LOT OF GUYS LIKE TO HAVE A SMOOTH FLUSH MOUNT BUMPER WITH SHAVED BOLT HEADS. THERE'S A COMMON TRICK TO THIS, BUT HERE'S HOW TO PREP IT FOR PLATING.
(JOSH)>> THE BEST WAY YOU CAN DO IT IS PUT YOUR BOLTS IN AND WELD A WASHER AROUND IT ON THE BACK SIDE. THIS HELPS GIVE IT MORE SURFACE TO GRAB ONTO. THEN ON THE FRONT YOU'RE GONNA WANNA WELD AROUND THE HEAD AND LEAVE THE WELD FOR US TO DRESS DOWN. IF YOU PLAN ON MODIFYING OR MAKING MULTIPLE PARTS FROM ONE, WHICH WILL INVOLVE WELDING, WE JUST PREFER THAT YOU WOULD LEAVE THE WELDS. THAT WAY WE CAN DRESS THEM DOWN IN A MANNER THAT WE WOULD PREFER.
(TOMMY)>> IN OUR CASE, WE NEED TO GET OUR BUMPER STRIPPED BEFORE WE CAN MODIFY IT BECAUSE GRINDING
THE CHROME OFF JUST MEANS A LOT MORE WORK FOR THE PLATERS LATER ON, WHICH WOULD COST US A LOT MORE MONEY.
(JOE)>> THOSE GUYS DID THEIR USUAL GOOD JOB TOM ON THE STRIPPING.
(TOMMY)>> YEAH, THEY GOT US SET UP SO THAT WE CAN START THE FABRICATION PROCESS, AND FABRICATING IS GOING TO BE A MUST. IF THE MOUNTING LOCATIONS ARE WRONG, IT'S TOO WIDE FOR THE CAR, THE CURVE OF THE BUMPER'S WRONG, AND IT'S TWO LONG FRONT TO BACK. SO WE'RE GONNA BE CUTTING THIS THING UP A GOOD BIT.
(JOE)>> YEAH AND WE CAN DO A LITTLE BIT OF THE WORK AND THEY CAN DO SOME OF IT. BUT HEY, IT'S GONNA BE WORTH IT IN THE LONG RUN, TRUST US, BECAUSE WE'RE GONNA HAVE A THIRD MORE SHINNY CHROME REAL ESTATE ON THIS OLD FORD, AND
PEOPLE WILL NOTICE, AND PEOPLE LOVE BIG BUMPERS.
(TOMMY)>> WELL THIS THING'S GOT A FEW BANGED UP SPOTS, AND DENTS, AND DINGS IN IT. SO I'M GONNA WORK THOSE OUT BEFORE I CUT THIS THING INTO LIKE SIX DIFFERENT PIECES.
(JOE)>> EVEN THOUGH IT'S SOME PRETTY SERIOUS METAL THAT WE'RE DEALING WITH, THE GOOD OLE HAMMER AND DOLLY ARE STILL PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF RESHAPING THE METAL TO OUR NEEDS. IT JUST TAKE S A LITTLE MORE PERSUADING.
(TOMMY)>> THEY'RE NOT TOO BAD. FOR SOME OF THE MORE OFFENSIVE DENTS AND DINGS, EVEN A BALL PENNE AND A TABLE TOP ARE PERFECTLY LEGITIMATE TOOLS TO GET THAT METAL MOVED BACK INTO PLACE. BUT ON SOME OF THE MORE SUBTLE FIXES, BEST TO GO WITH A BODY HAMMER INSTEAD OF THAT BIG OLE SMACKER. WE DON'T WANT TO MESS UP OUR HEADLIGHT BEZEL, SO WE COVERED THEM WITH SOME WELDING PAPER TO PROTECT AGAINST ALL THOSE SPARKS, AND GRINDING THINGS THAT'S GONNA BE FLYING IN THE AIR. NOW OUR BUMPER'S TOO WIDE. SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE TO NARROW IT AND IT WRAPS AROUND THE BACK SIDE TOO FAR. AND ONE THING YOU WANT TO KEEP IN MIND WHENEVER YOU'RE CUTTING AND MODIFYING THE BUMPERS, IS YOU KNOW EVERYBODY LIKES THEM ALL NICE AND TIGHT, BUT YOU DON'T WANT THEM TOO TIGHT TO INTERFERE WITH THE PAINT JOB.
WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE EDGED UP AGAINST THE FENDER, MARK THE BUMPER EVEN WITH THE CENTER OF THE GRILL.
NOW WE MARKED THE CENTER HERE, AND WE'VE GOT TO
SHOVE THIS SIDE OVER. BUT YOU WANT TO MAKE SURE TO MIMIC THE GAP FROM THIS SIDE TO THIS SIDE. SO JUST MAKE YOURSELF A MENTAL NOTE.
(JOE)>> AND THAT'S THE SECTION THAT WILL BE REMOVED WITH THE TWO SIDES JOINING RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. SOME TAPE HELPS INSURE THAT THE CUTTING LINES ARE NICE AND STRAIGHT.
THEN A CUTTING WHEEL WILL DO ITS JOB. YOU PROBABLY DON'T WANT TO DO THIS WITH A PLASMA CUTTER AND FOR SURE NOT AN ACETYLENE TORCH, IF YOU CAN HELP IT BECAUSE IT'S WAY EASIER TO PUT THE PIECES BACK TOGETHER IF THE EDGES ARE AS STRAIGHT AS POSSIBLE.
(ANNOUNCER)>> COMING UP, TAKE A RIDE ON THE COBRA SIDE WITH A ONE YEAR ONLY FAVORITE OF THE SHELBY CROWD.
(ANNOUNCER)>> DETROIT MUSCLE SALUTES THE 2003 SVT COBRA.
(JOE)>> LET'S SAY YOU'D LIKE A CAR WITH JUST THE
RIGHT AMOUNT OF 21ST CENTURY TECHNOLOGY THAT'S ALSO GOT THE SIMPLE OF RAW POWER OF AN OLD SCHOOL MUSCLE MACHINE. A REAL AMERICAN STREET FIGHTER THAT CAN KEEP UP WITH THOSE NEW SUPER CARS, EXCEPT WHEN IT COMES TO COST.
(BEN)>> HEY I'M BEN STAR, AND THAT'S MY CAR.
(TOMMY)>> IT'S A 2003 SVT COBRA, A PERFECT PLATFORM FOR HOT ROD MUSTANG GUYS LIKE BEN STAR.
(BEN)>> SOMETHING ABOUT THAT FLASH OF THE FOX PLATFORM, FIRST OF THE SUPERCHARGED COBRAS, I HAD TO HAVE IT.
(JOE)>> IN 1993 FORD'S NEW SPECIALTY VEHICLE TEAM LAUNCHED THE FIRST GENERATION SVT COBRA. HORSEPOWER RATINGS GREW FROM 235 TO 390 FOR THE LAST MODEL IN '03 AND '04. THANKS IN PART TO AN EATON SUPERCHARGER FORCING AIR INTO A BEEFED UP MOD MOTOR, CODE NAMED THE TERMINATOR.
(BEN)>> IT'S ONE OF THOSE CARS YOU CAN BUY, THROW A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY AT IT IF IT'S BONE STOCK, AND YOU'VE GOT BASICALLY A MONSTER TO GO AND BEAT UP ON PEOPLE OUT ON THE STREET. NOT CONDONING STREET RACING BY ANY MEANS.
(TOMMY)>> BEN ADDED A BUNCH OF MODS TO HIS
COBRA, INCLUDING A 276 SUPERCHARGER PULLEY THAT RAISES THE BOOST FROM EIGHT TO 15 POUNDS. AND WITH ITS CAST IRON BLOCK AND STOUT INTERNALS, THE TERMINATOR COULD TAKE IT. AND DISH IT OUT WHEN THE NEED ARISES.
(BEN)>> THERE HAS BEEN A COUPLE OF VETTES THAT MAY KNOW WHAT THE REAR OF THIS CAR LOOKS LIKE.
(JOE)>> ASIDE FROM THE SNAKE, YOU CAN TELL A COBRA FROM A G/T BY THE FRONT BUMPER WITH AN INTEGRATED SPOILER, TWO FUNCTIONAL HOOD SCOOPS, AND A REAR DECK SPOILER WITH AN LED BRAKE LIGHT.
(TOMMY)>> WHILE BEN LOVES THE LOOKS, IT WAS THE RAW POWER AND UP FRONT FEEL OF THE COBRA THAT GOT HIS ATTENTION.
(BEN)>> I ACTUALLY HAVE A THROTTLE CABLE ATTACHED TO MY GAS PEDAL. WHEN I'M REGULATING THE THROTTLE IT'S MY FOOT DOING IT, NOT A COMPUTER TELLING THE THROTTLE WHAT TO DO.
(JOE)>> WHILE A LOW MILEAGE COBRA, LIKE BEN'S, HOLDS ITS VALUE, IT'S STILL A FAIRLY AFFORDABLE WAY TO GET INTO SERIOUS HIGH PERFORMANCE, EVEN BEFORE YOU START TO MODIFY IT.
(BEN)>> THEY BUILT THIS TERMINATOR MOTOR, STRAPPED A BLOWER ON TOP, AND THEY DID THAT WITH THE INTENTION THAT YOU WERE GONNA TAKE IT OUT AND YOU WERE GONNA BEAT ON IT A LITTLE BIT. AND IF THAT'S WHAT THEY MADE IT FOR, WELL I'M GONNA DO FORD A FAVOR AND DO THAT FOR THEM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.
(TOMMY)>> WELL WE'VE GOT BOTH PIECES OF THE BUMPER TACKED BACK TOGETHER. THE NEXT THING WE'RE GONNA DO, WELL WE WANT THE BACK EDGE OF THIS BUMPER HERE TO FOLLOW THE SAME CONTOUR OF THIS PIECE OF STAINLESS.
AND TO DO THAT THE FIRST STEP, WELL I HAD TO ENGINEER THIS HIGH TECH DEVICE HERE. NOW IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES BUT HEY, IT WAS WORTH IT. WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS TAKE THE BACK EDGE OF THIS PIECE OF WOOD AND RUN IT ACROSS THE STAINLESS AND LET THE MARKER DO ITS JOB ON THE BUMPER ITSELF.
WHOOP, GET BACK UP, FANCY!
THIS LITTLE BIT OF METAL MAY NOT LOOK LIKE MUCH, BUT MAKING IT MATCH THE CURVE OF THAT PIECE OF STAINLESS STEEL GOES A LONG WAY IN MAKING THIS THING LOOK LIKE IT BELONGS. AND WHEN YOU'RE DONE, CHECK IT OUT! THE NEXT TASK AT HAND IS WE'VE GOT TO MOVE THIS PART FORWARD A LITTLE BIT CAUSE YOU CAN SEE IT'S ABOUT AN INCH AND THREE QUARTERS OFF. SO THE PLAN IS TO TAKE ABOUT AN INCH AND THREE QUARTER OF A SECTION OUT HERE, MOVE THIS FORWARD, WE'LL BE GOOD TO GO. WE'LL FIND A GOOD SPOT WHERE THE TAPER OF THE BUMPER LEVELS OFF FOR ONE EDGE OF THE METAL THAT WE'LL REMOVE. THEN WE'LL USE SOME TAPE STRIPS TO GET IT EXACTLY
AN INCH AND THREE QUARTERS BY USING TWO THREE QUARTER INCH PIECES AND ONE QUARTER INCH PIECE.
IMPORTANT THING HERE IS TO MAKE SURE YOU GET THIS PEAK LINED UP CAUSE THE REST OF THIS STUFF WE CAN HAMMER AND DOLLY IF NEED BE TO MAKE IT FIT. TO GIVE OUR WELD A PLACE TO FALL, A BEVEL NEEDS TO
BE MADE ON BOTH PIECES. THEN WE'LL TACK IT TOGETHER.
A LITTLE RESHAPING MIGHT BE NEEDED, BUT WE'RE FORMING THIS METAL TO LOOK LIKE IT GOES TOGETHER, SO THAT'S EXPECTED. WITH IT FIT BACK TO THE CAR YOU CAN SEE IT NEEDS A
LITTLE FILLER PIECE TO MAKE IT FLOW. ANOTHER OPTION YOU COULD HAVE WOULD BE GRIND THIS
DOWN, BUT IN OUR CASE IT'D MAKE THE GAP TOO WIDE AND NOT LOOK AS NICE. WE'LL USE A PIECE THAT WAS CUT OUT OF THE BUMPER SO THAT IT'S THE SAME METAL. WHICH MEANS YOU WON'T HAVE ANY SURPRISES WHEN IT COMES TO PLATING IT. OF COURSE YOU MAY HAVE TO MESSAGE IT A LITTLE BIT TO MAKE IT FIT.
WELL GUYS WE TOOK SOMETHING THAT HAD NO BUSINESS BEING ON THIS CAR AND MADE IT WORK. NOW I'VE STILL GOT TO FILL IN THESE HOLES AND FAB UP SOME BRACKETS TO ATTACH IT TO THE CAR, BUT WHEN WE'RE
ALL SAID AND DONE, THIS THING FOR SURE IS GONNA ADD A BOATLOAD OF SHINNY TO THE FRONT OF IT.
(JOE)>> AS MUCH FUN AS THOSE OLD SCHOOL MODS ARE, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE A NEW AUTO INDUSTRY TECHNOLOGY TAKES A GIANT LEAP FORWARD, AND WELL HERE'S ONE THAT WE WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU. WHAT YOU SEE HERE IS EVANS HIGH PERFORMANCE WATERLESS ENGINE COOLANT. AND BECAUSE OF THE FACT IT'S WATERLESS, IT HAS
WHOLE ARRAY OF BENEFITS OVER TRADITIONAL COOLANT. IT ELIMINATES OVERHEATING WITH A BOILING POINT OF 375 DEGREES, 100 DEGREES HIGHER THAN NORMAL COOLANT. AND THAT MEANS IT WON'T FORM VAPOR OR BOIL OVER. YOU ALSO AVOID CORROSION AND OTHER PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH WATER BASE COOLANTS. BUT OUR MAN TOM HERE HAS GOT HIS OWN SPECIAL REASON FOR USING IT.
(TOMMY)>> THAT'S RIGHT, NOW YOU GUYS MAY NOT KNOW THIS, BUT I'M KIND OF AN AVID DEMO DERBY GUY.
AND I ACTUALLY USE THIS COOLANT IN MY DERBY CARS BECAUSE NOT ONLY DOES IT KEEP THE ENGINE WAY COOLER, BUT IF I TAKE A BIG SHOT TO MY RADIATOR I CAN FLY UNDER THE RADAR BECAUSE THERE'S NO STEAM. THAT MEANS I CAN KEEP MY CAR'S INJURIES TO MYSELF, SO TO SPEAK.
(JOE)>> SOUNDS LIKE YOU JUST GAVE AWAY ONE OF YOUR SECRETS.
(TOMMY)>> MAY HAVE, MAY HAVE!
(JOE)>> NO SECRET WE'LL BE BACK HERE NEXT TIME. SO WHY DON'T YOU JOIN US. WHY'D YOU DO THAT?
(TOMMY)>> THIS IS HOW IT WORKS MAN, THIS IS HOW IT WORKS.
