THE GREAT OUTDOORS WITH PLENTY OF STORAGE, ACCESSORIES, LIGHTS, AND STYLE. THEN WE'LL TAKE OUR DENALI INTO THE DIRT AND THE MUD. PLUS WE'LL FINISH UP THE FRONT END ON OUR SURVIVALIST SUBURBAN.

(IAN)>> LAST TIME WE HAD OUR SIX BY SIX SUBURBAN PROJECT IN THE SHOP I WENT AHEAD AND ADDED OUR BED SIDES TO THE BACK OF THE BODY AND

SHORTENED UP THE ROOF. NOW BEFORE I FINISH OUT THE REST OF THE CUSTOM SHEET METAL ON THE BACK OF THE RIG, I WANT TO TAKE

CARE OF ANY WORK THAT WE'LL HAVE TO DO TO THE FRONT. NOW THAT MEANS DEALING WITH A NEW SET OF FENDERS AND A DOOR THAT'S BEEN DAMAGED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, AND ALSO THE FIREWALL. IT'S ALL DIRTY AND IT'S GOT A BUNCH OF STUFF ON IT THAT WE DO NOT NEED WITH THE POWER PLANT THAT'S UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF THE RIG. SO BEFORE WE START BOLTING ON SOME NEW PARTS THE FIRST STEP, CLEAN THIS THING UP.

TO CLEAN THE FIREWALL I AM USING GUNK'S NEW ALL PURPOSE CLEANER DEGREASER. NOW THIS CLEANER IS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO CUT THROUGH DIRT AND GREASE BUT WON'T HARM PLASTIC OR ALUMINUM.

IT'S INDUSTRIAL GRADE CLEANING THAT IS

NONTOXIC, AND AVAILABLE IN BULK TO DILUTE DIFFERENTLY FOR TOUGHER JOBS. AND WITH THE FIREWALL CLEAN, WE'LL GIVE IT A QUICK GOING OVER WITH SOME SCOTCHBRITE TO PREP IT FOR A COAT OF DUPLICOLOR BED LINER BLACK. THAT SHOULD GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT THE FINAL COLOR FOR THIS PROJECT IS GONNA BE. NOW IF YOU GUYS REMEMBER, THE ENTIRE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THIS SUBURBAN WAS PRETTY DAMAGED. I THINK THIS TRUCK MAY HAVE BEEN ON ITS SIDE AT

ONE TIME OR ANOTHER. NOW OUT BACK I WELDED IN A PATCH PANEL, BUT UP HERE

I'M JUST GONNA USE FULL REPLACEMENT PIECES. THAT'S BECAUSE JUST FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE THAN A DOOR SKIN I CAN GET AN ENTIRE DOOR SHELL ASSEMBLY AUTO METAL DIRECT, AND THIS WILL SIMPLY REPLACE THE DOOR ON THE TRUCK. ALL I HAVE TO DO IS SWAP OVER ALL THE PIECES ONTO THE NEW DOOR. WHEN SWAPPING OUT COMPLETE PANELS LIKE DOORS I LIKE TO STRIP THE DOOR WHILE IT IS STILL ATTACHED TO THE TRUCK. THAT KEEPS THE DOOR AT A REASONABLE WORKING HEIGHT AND HELD STEADY WHILE DISASSEMBLY TAKES PLACE. EVERYTHING HAS TO COME OUT, LATCHES, WINDOW, OUTER HANDLE, AND THE MIRROR. THEN THE DOOR CAN BE CLOSED AND THE BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE SHELL TO THE HINGES CAN BE REMOVED.

TO INSTALL THE NEW DOOR SHELL THE PROCESS IS SIMPLY REVERSED. THE SHELL IS INSTALLED ONTO THE TRUCK AND ALL THE INTERNAL PARTS CAN BE BOLTED BACK UP.

I'VE ONLY INSTALLED THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE AND LATCH MECHANISM ON OUR NEW DOOR FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS. FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO BE ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR BUT IF I INSTALL THE OUTSIDE HANDLE THEN I'M GONNA HAVE TO MASK THAT OFF WHEN THE TRUCK GETS PAINTED. SO FOR NOW I JUST HAVE THE INTERIOR HANDLE IN PLACE, DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THE WINDOW. THE WINDOW IS ALSO AN ISSUE.

IF YOU REMEMBER, WE'RE BUILDING THIS TRUCK FOR THE END OF THE WORLD. WE'RE ELIMINATING ANY UNNECESSARY ELECTRONICS. THAT MEANS THAT THE POWER WINDOWS IN THIS TRUCK, WELL THEY'VE GOT TO GO. SO I'M GONNA CONVERT THEM OVER TO A MANUAL ROLL UP, ROLL DOWN WINDOW, BUT FOR NOW OUR NEW DOOR IS IN PLACE. NOW WE CAN TOSS ON THE FENDERS. MAYBE EVEN TEST FIT THE HOOD.

WHOO THAT GOT HOT. A PROJECT LIKE THIS ALSO LETS YOU PRACTICE DIFFERENT WELDING POSITIONS, NOT JUST WITH YOUR DOMINANT HAND RUNNING VERTICAL UP OR OVERHEAD. THROW THE TORCH INTO YOUR OFF HAND AND TRY THOSE SAME POSITIONS. ALSO TRY WELDING USING A SMALL POCKET MIRROR. THAT SKILL COMES IN HANDY WHEN YOU'RE CRAMMED UP UNDERNEATH YOUR RIG AND YOU'RE WELDING ON THE TOP OF A CROSS MEMBER AND YOU CAN'T SEE THE TOP OF THE BEAD THAT YOU'RE TRYING TO LAY DOWN. BEING ABLE TO MIRROR WELD IS A SKILL THAT YOU'LL DEFINITELY WANT TO PULL OUT OF YOUR BAG OF TRICKS. ALSO SPEND SOME TIME PREPPING THE JOINTS. IF YOU CLEAN ALL THIS MILL SCALE OFF OF HERE AND WIPE

THIS TUBING DOWN YOU'LL REALLY IMPROVE THAT WELD BEAD.

THAT NOT ONLY SACRIFICES THE APPEARANCE OF THE WELD BUT IT ACTUALLY MAKES A WEAK SPOT BECAUSE YOU'VE INCREASED THE AMOUNT OF HEAT THAT YOU HAVE TO INPUT AT THAT LOCATION. ALL OF THESE SKILLS EASILY TRANSFER FROM A SIMPLE TABLE PROJECT LIKE THIS TO PROJECTS ON YOUR OFF ROAD RIG. IT'S ALSO A GREAT TIME TO TRY DIFFERENT SETTINGS ON YOUR MACHINE. THE ESAB REBEL IS FULL OF SETUP OPTIONS LIKE PREFLOW AND POST FLOW. PREFLOW PURGES THE WELD JOINT WITH SOME SHIELDING GAS BEFORE BEGINNING THE WELD, AND POST FLOW ALLOWS THE GAS TO CONTINUE TO FLOW WHEN YOU'VE RELEASED THE TRIGGER. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT FEATURE FOR STAINLESS STEEL, BUT ON MILD STEEL YOU CAN ALSO NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. BURN BACK IS THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE WIRE IS STILL

ENERGIZED AFTER YOU RELEASE THE TRIGGER.

BY ADJUSTING THIS IT CAN HELP PREVENT THE WIRE FROM STICKING INTO THE MOLTEN PUDDLE. MAKING THESE ADJUSTMENTS WHEN BUILDING A SIMPLE PROJECT LIKE THIS BENCH HELPS YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THE FINISH WELDS THAT YOU'RE GONNA MAKE ON YOUR RIG. THAT'S A NICE TABLE.

NOW I'M KIND OF CONFLICTED OVER THE IDENTITY OF THIS TRUCK. I CERTAINLY WOULDN'T CALL IT A WORK TRUCK. I MEAN IT'S A FULL LEATHER INTERIOR BRAND NEW TRUCK. I WOULDN'T CONSIDER IT A CHASE TRUCK BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT GONNA TAKE A GMC DENALI AND CHASE YOUR BUDDY'S RACE CAR AROUND THE DESERT.

WHAT WOULD YOU USE THIS TRUCK FOR? WELL THIS WOULD BE THE PERFECT ADVENTURE TRUCK. A TRUCK YOU DRIVE TO WORK EVERY SINGLE DAY, BUT ON THE WEEKENDS YOU THROW YOUR FRIENDS OR YOUR FAMILY IN IT, HEAD UP INTO THE MOUNTAINS FOR A HIKE, OR MAYBE INTO THE DESERT TO DO SOME CAMPING. NOW THESE ADVENTURES USUALLY MEAN A LOT OF EXTRA GEAR.

SO WE'RE GONNA ADD SOME STORAGE IN THIS TRUCK TO CARRY ALL OF THAT GEAR THAT YOU WILL NEED, BUT BEFORE WE DO THAT I STILL HAVE ONE MORE THING TO DO TO MAKE THIS TRUCK LOOK JUST A LITTLE BIT TOUGHER. I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE SAYING THAT CHROME

WON'T GET YOU HOME. SO I'M GONNA BLACK OUT ALL OF THE CHROME ON THIS

TRUCK, BUT I ALSO KNOW THAT A FUTURE OWNER OF THIS PICK UP MIGHT NOT FEEL THE SAME WAY. SO I AM USING DUPLICOLOR CUSTOM WRAP. IT'S A REMOVABLE COATING THAT CAN BE APPLIED OVER MOST PAINTED OR CHROME PLATED SURFACES WITH MINIMAL PREP, AND YES, IT CAN BE PEELED OFF IN THE FUTURE, LEAVING NO RESIDUE ON THE TRUCK.

THERE'S A VERY GOOD REASON THAT A PICK UP TRUCK IS THE ULTIMATE WEEKEND AT THE

READY ADVENTURE VEHICLE. THAT'S BECAUSE IN THE BED THERE IS A LOT OF ROOM FOR STORAGE. WELL WE CAN ALSO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE VERTICAL REAL ESTATE THAT'S AVAILABLE TO US TO HAVE EVEN MORE STORAGE, AND IT ALL STARTS WITH SOME TYPE OF CARGO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. THIS IS THE LEITNER ACTIVE CARGO MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, AND IT'S MORE THAN JUST A BED RACK. IT IS A FULLY UPGRADABLE BED CARGO STORAGE SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR ADVENTURE. THE UNIVERSAL SIDE MOUNTS CAN ALSO BE USED TO HOLD FLUID CONTAINMENT SYSTEMS, LIKE THIS ROTO PACKS FUEL JUG, CAUSE YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MUCH FUEL WHEN YOU'RE ON AN ADVENTURE.

FOR THIS TIRE GATE. NOW IT ALLOWS YOU TO RUN A FULL SIZE SPARE IN PLACE

OF YOUR FACTORY TAILGATE. IT GIVES IT THIS RACY TUBULAR LOOK, BASICALLY HANGING THE TIRE OUT OVER THE REAR BUMPER, BUT THE BEST PART IS IS YOU DON'T LOSE ANY OF THE CARGO CAPACITY OF THE BED BECAUSE THE TIRE GATE SIMPLY SWINGS OUT OF THE WAY WHEN YOU NEED TO ACCESS IT, AND IT STILL LEAVES YOU WITH A FULL FLAT FLOOR, ABLE TO CARRY AS MUCH CARGO AS A TRUCK WITH A REGULAR TAILGATE.

WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF UPGRADES PLANNED FOR THE INTERIOR OF THIS TRUCK BECAUSE IT'S BASICALLY BRAND NEW. THERE ARE TWO THINGS THAT WE WANT TO TAKE CARE OF THOUGH. IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THESE MODERN PICK UP TRUCKS THAT YOU'VE MODIFIED IN ANY WAY, A GREAT THING TO GET IS ONE OF THESE POWER PROGRAMMERS LIKE THIS MAX ENERGY TWO POINT ZERO FROM HYPERTECH. NOW THIS PROGRAMMER WILL NOT ONLY ALLOW ME TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE SHIFT POINTS OF MY TRANSMISSION, READ AND CLEAR THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES,

AS WELL AS ADJUST THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

THE BEST THING IS IS WHILE IT'S PROVIDING ME THAT EXTRA POWER IT ALSO MONITORS THE EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURE TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS OPERATING WITHIN SAFE PARAMETERS, AND THAT IS A BIG DEAL IF YOU EVER PLAN TO TOW WITH YOUR DIESEL TRUCK.

TO MAKE THE CHANGES TO OUR TRUCK'S COMPUTER IT'S AS SIMPLE AS ANSWERING A FEW QUESTIONS AND ALLOWING THE PROGRAMMER TO UPLOAD INTO THE FACTORY COMPUTER. THEY EASILY INSTALL BY QUICKLY SLIDING OVER THE SEAT BACK AND UTILIZE QUICK RELEASE CONNECTORS TO ANCHOR THEM. BEST PART IS THEY'RE CUSTOM PATTERNED

FOR EACH SEAT. SO AFTER A WEEKEND OF PLAY YOU CAN INSTALL ALL THE COVERS OR JUST THE ONE YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR INTERIOR CLEAN. A SIGNATURE ITEM ON THE FRONT OF ALL OF THESE DENALI PICK UP TRUCKS IS THIS LARGE CHROME GRILL, BUT REMEMBER, MY PLAN IS TO BLACK OUT ALL OF THE CHROME ON THIS TRUCK. SO INSTEAD OF JUST DARKENING DOWN THIS GRILL, I'M ACTUALLY GOING TO UPGRADE IT

WITH A GRILL INSERT. THIS IS THE RIGID INDUSTRIES LED LIGHT BAR AND GRILL COMBO. IT'S A STAINLESS STEEL GRILL INSERT THAT'S BEEN BLACK POWDER COATED WITH FULL STAINLESS STEEL FASTENERS, AND IT ACCEPTS ONE OF THEIR RDS, OR CURVED ESERIES LIGHT BARS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GRILL. NOW KEEPING WITH OUR BLACKED OUT THEME, I DIDN'T STICK WITH THE STANDARD LIGHT BAR. I UPGRADED TO ONE OF THEIR MIDNIGHT SERIES BARS. NOW THE MIDNIGHT BAR, AS YOU CAN SEE, THE OPTIC HAS

BEEN TREATED TO A COLORING THAT BASICALLY MAKES THE

LIGHT BAR DISAPPEAR IN THE DAY BUT STILL ALLOWS IT TO SHINE GOOD AND BRIGHT WHEN WE NEED IT AT NIGHT. NOW THE CURVED LIGHT BAR, YES IT DOES FIT THE FRONT OF THE GRILL VERY NICELY, BUT IT'S ACTUALLY CURVED FOR A REASON. BY CURVING THE BAR THE LIGHT THAT COMES OUT OF THIS BAR IS ACTUALLY MUCH WIDER, GIVING YOU MUCH MORE LIGHT COVERAGE, BETTER VIEW AT NIGHT. YEAH, IT'S CURVED TO LOOK COOL, BUT IT'S ALSO CURVED FOR A REASON. TO INSTALL THE INSERT THE FACTORY GRILL ASSEMBLY IS

REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK, AND THE INNER

STRUCTURE IS CUT OUT. THE HOLE LOCATIONS ARE THEN MARKED

ONTO THE GRILL SHELL. TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE LIGHT BAR THE STRUCTURE UNDERNEATH NEEDS SOME SLIGHT TRIMMING. THEN THE OUTER SHELL IS BLACKED OUT USING THE DUPLICOLOR BLACK CUSTOM WRAP. THE RIGID INDUSTRIES GRILL AND LIGHT BAR IS THEN

INSTALLED AND THE ENTIRE GRILL ASSEMBLY IS BOLTED BACK ONTO THE TRUCK. ADDITIONAL SCENE LIGHTING FROM RIGID INDUSTRIES

IS ALSO ADDED TO OUR RACK SYSTEM. THIS NOT ONLY GIVES US 4,000 LUMENS OF LIGHT, BUT THE BRACKETS ARE ALSO ADJUSTABLE. SO WE CAN SHINE THAT LIGHT WHERE WE'LL NEED IT.

WITH OUR ADVENTURE TRUCK OUT OF THE SHOP AND INTO THE DIRT, THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT IT LOOKS A LOT MEANER THAN WHEN IT FIRST SHOWED UP TO THE XOR SHOP. THE NEW BDS COIL OVER SUSPENSION SYSTEM MAKES QUICK WORK OF ROUGH TERRAIN, AND THE NITTO RIDGE GRAPPLERS CLAW THEIR WAY THROUGH THE DIRT, ROCKS, AND MUD. WHEN THIS TRUCK FIRST SHOWED UP AT THE XTREME SHOP, IF IT WAS A CUP OF COFFEE, IT WAS A LATTE ORDERED AT A DRIVE THRU WINDOW, BUT NOW IT IS A COARSE GROUND CUP OF BOLD, BLACK COFFEE PERCOLATED OVER AN OPEN FIRE DEEP IN THE WOODS.
