Shocking Dealership Theft: 2 Men Charged in $147K Car Heist

In a noteworthy development in automotive crime, two residents of Maryland have been charged in connection with a major car theft totaling $147,140, that occurred at a Gettysburg dealership earlier this year. Jefferson Ventura, 18, and London Flores, 19, both from Silver Spring, Maryland, are facing serious felony charges including theft, burglary, and criminal mischief. These charges are linked to a high-profile incident at Renn Kirby Chevrolet, located in Straban Township, on April 26, 2024.

The Incident Unfolded – Two High Value Vehicles

The early hours of April 26 saw a brazen theft unfold at Renn Kirby Chevrolet. The suspects arrived at the dealership around midnight in a dark blue Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Ventura, one of the main suspects, exited the Hellcat and used an unidentified tool to shatter the glass door leading to the showroom. This act of vandalism allowed him and Flores to gain access to the dealership’s interior. The third individual involved, who has yet to be identified, remained in the Hellcat to assist with the getaway.

Once inside the showroom, Ventura and Flores targeted two high-value vehicles: a silver 2024 Chevrolet Corvette valued at $88,640 and a yellow 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 convertible worth $58,500. Despite their efforts, the duo faced challenges as they were unable to unlock the vehicles’ glass doors to drive them out. Instead, they located keys for a Chevy Equinox parked outside the showroom. Ventura then used the Equinox to ram through the glass doors of the showroom, causing significant damage. The destructive force also resulted in a collision with another Chevy Equinox and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle parked inside the showroom.

Investigation and Recovery – Tracked Down

The theft did not go unnoticed for long. The Corvette was equipped with OnStar, which provided crucial tracking data. OnStar was activated around 10:29 a.m. on the morning following the theft, disabling the Corvette’s engine. GPS tracking led authorities to Silver Spring, Maryland, where the Corvette was discovered under a tarp. It was found with a stolen Pennsylvania license plate, which had been taken from a dealership in Chester County, Pennsylvania, just two days earlier.

Further investigation revealed that a stolen blue Camaro was also found in the same area, which added to the complexity of the case. The breakthrough in the investigation came when Howard County, Maryland, police conducted a “tower dump” search warrant. This warrant collected data from cellphones in the vicinity of a burglary in Howard County. The data traced a suspect’s phone to the Gettysburg dealership at the time of the theft, linking it to the crime.

Additional analysis of the phone records showed that the same phone was present during the Chester County robbery, providing a critical connection between the two cases. This evidence led investigators to identify London Flores as the owner of the phone.

Theft Arrest and Evidence

The investigation culminated on May 14, 2024, when Montgomery County Police executed a search warrant at Flores’ residence. Both Flores and Ventura were detained during this operation. The search of the property revealed a trove of incriminating items, including numerous key fobs, key fob programming equipment, a substantial amount of cash, and a firearm. Notably, a hoodie found at the scene matched the clothing seen in the surveillance footage from the Gettysburg heist.

The suspects were arrested and are currently being held in Maryland. Their arrest underscores the complexity of modern car theft investigations and the importance of interagency collaboration.
