Jeep Recalls 69,000 Wranglers & Gladiators Over Potential Manual Transmission Fires For The Second Time

In February 2023, Jeep had to briefly pause its shipments of Wranglers and Gladiators with manual transmission over a recurring issue that has not been completely solved since its last recall. Jeep had previously issued a recall on six-speed Wranglers and Gladiators in 2020 due to their clutch plates overheating and potentially cracking. This is especially dangerous at high speeds where road debris can damage the transmission, and hot debris can potentially start a fire.

Apparently, this initial recall did not fully exterminate the issue, as FCA investigators discovered a similar problem involving fires associated with malfunctioning manual clutch systems in vehicles produced after 2021. At first, the recall involved 33,237 vehicles, but that figure has more than doubled to a total of 69,201 units. According to Jeep, there are no reports of accidents regarding the potential issue, minus one instance involving an injury. 2018 – 2023 Jeep Wranglers, and 2020-2023 Jeep Gladiators are the only vehicles being linked to this recall.

This news makes sense for why those 2023 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators went unshipped in February, and hopefully, this recall will be the final remedy to this issue that has been affecting these models for the last few years. Owners can expect to receive letters in the mail starting April 14th.
